Marlin Guide Gun - question

i've rarely had a deer see movement and just freeze, i can see if ya are a blind but if they see a man moving they boogie.

now i am speaking of bucks, i've gotten out of a truck and pointed rifles at does and they just stand there and keep grazing, i was like "man if ya see this pic again i suggest running" lol, but bucks gen'ly arent like that, feral pigs will run pretty quickly too with noise and movement, probably quicker than anything will.

of course YMMV.

I suppose it is important to take stock of what sort of person you are when deciding how to carry the weapon. Have you ever suffered from "Buck Fever" whereby you do weird things like run two or three rounds through the firearm without even thinking about it? If so, you shouldn't carry with one in the pipe.

A lot of accidental discharges occur when doing some odd maneuvering like climbing through a fence (a classic example). Such actions add risk, especially in a half-cocked position.

Also physical fitness, once you get tired you get careless, another classic place accidents occur is back at the truck at the end of the day.

If you happen to hunt in non brushy flatlands, with no fences, and are in great shape it won't be a worry.

Personally, I'd rather miss out on a trophy than risk shooting my friend in the face.

Just a few things to consider before you go off half-cocked...:D

If a gun is not fully loaded it is a poor club.
Been carring leveraction rifles for years fully loaded and no AD'S
Also cary a 1911 .45 cocked an locked.

That is just silly, it is still a fully functional firearm.

It only takes one momentary lapse, I'm sure most people who have had an AD used to be in the same boat.

Do you walk around hunting with it in your hands or is it in the holster the vast majority of the time?

in my neck of the woods if ya go running 2 or 3 rounds thru a rifle from buck fever ya might as well completely unload it lol, cause ya wont be needing it anyway.

when i hunt with a 1911 i always have it in my hands FWIW.

of course i never hunt w/a 1911 lol.

Most people of my generation have been carrying
a rifle like that all their lives with no problems
seems the problems started with the later gen.
