I picked up a new rifle today. An older papoose with the wooded stock in great shape for 125.00, I couldn't pass it up. My favorite bush rifle has been the Savage 24C and thought that this would be a good addition being semi auto. It did not have the wrench or case. I have exhausted my search and Marlin doesn't have it. I thought maybe
strap wrench would work but I would like to have the original wrench. Any ideas?

wrench for what ? i have one and dont have a wrench.. i dont know what you would need one for

Try Brownells or Numrich.
thank you, no go. Brownell, midway, cabellas, Marlin and a host of others don't have what I need. Since it is a spanner wrench, I think I will try an automotive parts store. I don't know what else to do. I suppose I could try and grind one out if I could get a good look at one. It has been suggested to use a coin to move the ring. I don't want to bugger up the slot. Maybe the strap wrench. Since it is good and tight I suppose I will just shoot it and take my time looking for what I need. I have read much about these guns. A love hate relationship with these guns but better that the AR7.

I have the wrench and never use it. they are great little guns for sure. enjoy it, just don't screw the barrel on so tight once you get it off :)

Couldn't get the barrrel off with the strap wrench. Oiled the retaining ring up real good. Took the receiver apart to clean it and looks like it has hardly been shot. So far so good. I have two 12 hr shifts at the hospital for the next two days. Vice grips next on the list with lots of padding.

I believe the retaining ring is aluminum. Don't use ammonia on anything aluminum unless you want to ruin it.

As already suggested, I'd heat the ring up, it should loosen.

did you call Marlin, or just look for it on their website? probably not enough requests for that part for them to have it on the website.

also, check ebay. I just did, and saw no papoose wrench, but someone is selling papoose carrying cases, and they look original.

Ebay checked and saw the new cases, no wrenches. Called Marlin, no go. Kind of frustrating. . No go with Numerich. No wrench for PS or PSS. Thanks for all the replies. Gun is soaking up the oil. I didn't tighten it up, bought it that way.

I can't believe Marlin doesn't have it. What the heck? They are still producing the Papoose aren't they??

Marlin has been going downhill ever since they were bought by The Freedom Group (IMHO). It's a real shame too, considering they once offered the best quality, most reliable rimfires for the money (also MHO). Notice I said "for the money" before all of the CZ guys get fired up :)

Yep, they have the stainless plastic stocked one. Still no wrench. i don't understand it. That's O.K. I still have the rifle. Once I get it loose it will be hand tighten only. I always have my Savage 24C camper for my woods bumming rifle.
