Marlin Papoose wrench

The papoose is my main go to small game rifle I absolutely love it. I rarely take the barrel off, but I just did actually on this last camp out when we went to the ridge cabin I hiked it up in my backpack. Get a pipe wrench on there and get it loose and then keep it hand tight. every couple of shots it will loosen a bit but it will be fine trust me, I've been shooting mine like that for years and it's always been squirrel head accurate.

Love the papoose.....I took off the scope in the picture a while ago and shoot it iron sights now, much more fun and challenging for minute of squirrel head. I also put a little survival kit in the hollow butt stock. Extra rounds, matches, etc...

I shot it the other day and it shot the CCI minimags better that the Federal bulk pack. My sight is getting fuzzy for irons in poor light. I was thinking a small red dot would be nice. Your hollow stock could come in handy mine is solid. Once I get it apart it will be hand tighten only. Beautiful companion dog. Looks like they are made to go together.

Thanks! I shoot nothing but CCI stingers in it. It's strictly a hunting gun I don't plink with it and I've never had a misfire with stingers. Those high velocity rounds really do a number on small game at 1600+ FPS.

Well I went woods bumming today and took the papoose. Since I cannot find the wrench, I decided that today it is going to come apart. Thanks for the responses. First, I got a can of man. I cut a thick piece of leather and placed it around the nut. I used a pair of vice grips and gently snugged it around the ring and worked it loose. It was my last resort. I didn't tighten the ring in the first place and will only hand tighten from now on. Only thing left to do is add some sling swivels. The rifle shoots well for me and is light weight and a joy to carry. It will never replace the Savage 24 but will hold it's own. I think it will be a great pack or travel rifle in the car. Thanks all for the responses. I cannot believe that Marlin doesn't have replacement parts and that the wrench is so hard to find on the net. Regards.

You're right, it does make a great truck/car rifle. The rear cargo area of my 2007 Jeep Wrangler has a closed compartment where I stash a few supplies and that's where my Papoose lives. Its a pretty small compartment, not much room for a lot of things, but with the barrel off the little Marlin it fits in there perfectly.

I also equipped the rifle with a stock saddle pouch and in it I keep some ammo, magazines, and of course...the barrel wrench.

Good idea. I thought that the next generation of Papoose was the stainless plastic stock one. I didn't know about the blued one. I will try and get out this weekend and use mine with CB Longs and stingers. Looks like you don't keep it in a case. Regards

I would be relatively cheap to take the barrel nut to a machine shop and have a spanner wrench made to fit it.
Just a thought if you're still looking to get one.

Thanks for the suggestion. I called Marlin again the other day and now they told me they were back ordered. They didn't say that before. I ordered one anyway for about 13.00. I will just have to do the time and wait for the manufacture of them.
