Hi All you Hogs,

I missed Knobganza due to vacationing in Barbados  Anyway it looks like a friendly New England Hog put in a few orders for me. Went fishing though and luck was with us about three miles off the south east coast of Barbados. We had caught two Wahoos earlier and thought the day was over and then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ! Put my son in law in the chair (He had never fished in his life) In the pic below we were down to about 30 feet of 80lb line which is OK for wahoos but when this head came out of the water we knew we were on something a bit bigger ! The South East coast of Barbados is in the background. We had to do a lot of backing up to recoup some line and the reel got so hot at one point it would not function.

There was too much confusion over the next aprox. 1 and 1/2 hours to take any pics but here he is under foot, Porkus's foot that is ! :D

Without the help of this guy there is no way we would ever have brought this fish in. Yes we could have done with a longer vehicle :o

The fork lift got him on the scales and he came in at 354lbs

Unfortunately there were no Busse knives available so these locals used what they had, pretty sharp actually

were you able to take the fish home?

Negative, he fetched $500 for the boat but I got the sword to take home. Here is our helper going at it with the hacksaw. We were told that owning marlin swords in Barbados is forbidden by law. The locals claim that stab wounds with these produce only internal bleeding !!:(

Great Catch . Did you eat the Wahoo's its one of the best fish , steaked on the grill .

Awesome pics and story from an awesome trip!

Congrats on all of your catches, but especially the little one in the back of the truck.

Wow. I would miss Knob to go on an outing like that anytime..

When you first snaged the fish, how long did it take to reel it in?
It's a monster..

One last pic to show the way the hook traveled up from mid-mouth to sword. Some fishermen say fish have no feeling in their mouths, I sure hope so :(

Congratulations on a GREAT trip, John!
Blackened Wahoo and a 350+ lb. Marlin is one fantastic day.
Thanks for sharing the pics--they are excellent motivation for visiting Barbados.

I'm packing up a Switzerland bound box as we speak.

That is one heck of a first time fishing!!!

There's nothing like the sound of line flying off a reel at high speeds--and when the reel gets that hot the panic you mentioned is seriously heightened. Great fun!!

That seems to be debated as if it was global warming.

Having been a fisherman since I was about age 9 I was interested in that and did some research a while ago. As I recall there are two studies, one English and one Dutch; that concluded that fish with skeletons did feel pain. But then you can also find rebuttals by professors from Universities located in states that are big sport fishing states like Wyoming and Alaska that say that the studies are suspect.

So who the heck knows. Just pray that the Karma thing isn’t true too and we don’t come back as fish.
