Marlin Strike Barbados

In order to get the maximum price for a catch like this you got to keep the fish from drying and hence loosing weight. In this case it was everybody's tee shirt and buckets of water. Pity the gals were not out with us cause we would of had their tees wet wet wet.

Barbados is a beautiful island to visit so it was hard coming back to snow in Switzerland. Outside of fishing, I'd reccomend it for a vacation.

That seems to be debated as if it was global warming.

Having been a fisherman since I was about age 9 I was interested in that and did some research a while ago. As I recall there are two studies, one English and one Dutch; that concluded that fish with skeletons did feel pain. But then you can also find rebuttals by professors from Universities located in states that are big sport fishing states like Wyoming and Alaska that say that the studies are suspect.

So who the heck knows. Just pray that the Karma thing isn’t true too and we don’t come back as fish.

Very interesting, thanks for the input. I was thinking that with most of their prey being all spiney like they might lack pain sensors in the mouth area. I'll go with you on the karma !

That is an awesome fish!
did somebody eat it?

Actually within an hour of butchering that fish was on sale at the local market and I saw a guy walking off with a good sized chunk who said he worked for a restaurant. Kind of made us feel good about it. The pics here cannot do justice to how this fish looked when he (or she) came alongside the boat. The colours were incredible with everything from green to silver and blue. Once in the boat all that was gone and yes I must admit at one point I was thinking that maybe it wouldn't be so bad if he broke the line and lived to see another day. There seems to be some debate about what Marlins use their swords for. The fisherman we saw said that they slap prey with it and break their backs, the skipper on our boat said he had seen one jump clean out the water after a Dorado and pierce it through. I brought home the sword (its still pretty stinky) and it is like a rasp to the touch. I won like to have that thing hitting me any more than my FBM !
