Here are a couple of pics of our FG1 model. It has a five inch blade of 1/4" stock 1095. We have made some with a satin finish and some blued. Handle scales are micarta and a Blackhawk sheath is standard. What do you guys prefer for a blade finish on a knife intended for use? Satin or Blued. Our goal with this knife was to produce an affordable handmade knife for hard use. So we tried to stick to quality basic materials. We have also played with the idea of a mortised tang version. That would allow various handle contours while keeping the strength of the full tang knife. How do you folks feel about the mortised tang set up? Thanks.

Looks pretty darn good. I am into a 4 inch size rather than 5 just my personal preference. I also like the blued look....nice... My one critique is to lose the extra finger contour in the middle of the handle.

First, great looking knife. Looks as thought it would survive a nuclear war.

I like satin finish personally. Never really had a hard time keeping my carbon blades free from rust.

I also would like to see more mortised tangs. Very strong, and more comfortable to use. Especially in the winter.

Good stuff.

That looks like a great design, I like it. I prefer satin but the bluing looks nice too. A thickness of 3/16ths would be a great option for this model too I think. And I really like mortised tangs, it suits this one perfectly.

Here is the mortised tang version we have been playing with. You could shape the handle many different ways. Finger grooves could be added if someone was into that, and as suggested by Rockywolf, you could lose the middle contour on the handle with a mortised tang version. And all from the same blade blank.;)

Looks good, what kind of a grind is that?
Could do without the choil. I don't really like choils at all.
Mortised tang is ok with me.
personally a 3.75-4.5 inch blade length would be more to my liking.
But depending on the price 5 inches is ok.
Looks like a great knife!
:)

Sorry folks, forgot about the grind. This one is flat ground. The edge can be beveled or convexed, but the ones in the pics have a beveled edge.

We have made a couple in 3/16 stock recently and have talked of trying 1/8" stock for a super thin slicer. If someone wanted it in one of these stocks we could do it no problem.

Redsnake1997, I sent you an email.

Mr Martin...I believe you are making an impression on my knife want list..very cool. I used to see some of your knives when I lived in TX, at the gun shows..they where always very well made...clean and strong. Gene

Looks like you've got some real winners, nice designs.

The mortised tangs are kosher with me as long as they're still broad.
