I had opted to order a Martin Knife through a buddy of mine who was a Martin Dealer. Of course I was notified yesterday that my order was cancelled. It appears Martin Knives is doing some house cleaning which include cutting back dealers & a significant price increase come June 1st.

So my order through the dealer was cancelled along with the rest of his orders. Damn.

I was waiting on a... 7" Recurve with sawback MA5 Drevenak Attack with a Green Micarta handle & a Green Spec Ops sheath! Would have been sweet! :grumpy:

I was curious on whether it was worth placing an order directly with Martin knowing the current situation and not knowing what this price increase may look like? Has anyone bought from Martin before & would still do so in the future?

I have order six knives. Directly from eddie. Never got dropped. Write to Eddie at Martin. I currently have two on order. If you place before the price rise you will save some cash. Mr11, mcf, newer mcf, 3 mr1-7...all are awesome!!!

I think my dealer had some recent issues with the folks at Martin and dropped all his (and my!) orders. Oh well.

I just sent the email to Eddie Martin! I am curious on cost (w/ my config) & wait time.

Eddie and Newt are great guys and super easy to work with and make damn fine knives. I wouldn't worry about my order once the Martin guys have it either!!

we at martin knives apologize to anyone who got caught in the middle of our restructuring. an issue came up that had to be clarrified. we have one AUTHORIZED martin knives dealer(TREEMAN KNIVES). you can be sure if you go through treeman or martin knives, your order will not be cancelled. also martin knives has a lifetime warranty, where ever, or from whomever you recieved one of our knives, we will stand behind it 100%. thanks everyone,----newt---

Bill, at Michigan Knives has also been a great steward and advocate to the brand.

Newt, that is interesting. I know of three Martin dealers that buy your knives at a discount, yet you claim that Treeman Knives is the only "authorized" dealer. What do you call those guys, "unauthorized" Martin dealers? Also, is it smart business to drop all dealers but one?

whitie

Great question Whitie, treeman is the only authorized dealer, that means his orders are always priority, and we run several special project knives that are only attainable through him. now i understand there are other guys selling our knives and i have no problem what so ever with that, in fact i do every thing possible to accomodate anyone selling martin knives. thats why i offer the life time warranty to any one with a martin knife, that way ,no matter where you got it, you can send it back to us if there is a problem with it, all you pay is shipping. and last i did not drop a bunch of dealers, treeman knives was and is the only dealer i ever had and have. my company is not quite large enough yet to support any more. one day i pray it will. there are some great guys that are selling or knives so dont be afraid to by a martin from them. one day when i get a little bigger i will be able to add more dealers. thanks guys, ---newt--

Add, funny you should mention Bill (Michigan Knives), my original order was placed through him! I have bought many knives from Bill. Great guy  and always a smooth transaction... just not with Martin Knives anymore I guess. :(

Newt, do you still encourage then direct orders to Martin or to go through Jim at Treeman? I sent an email to Ed Martin on the 29th but have not heard a response. I will resend now, just in case.

hey knifefury, please resend your order, my Dad goes through alot of emails, and some get kicked over into the spam folder. you can also call the shop 903- 527-5893. email eddie@martinknives.com give him a couple of days to get an estimate out to you. as far as ordering a knife-if you want it made a certain way, you will get it alot faster(and cheaper) going through us, wait time is 3-9 months. if you cant wait that long and you see one you like that someone else is selling, then by all means get it. there is always that possibility that jim could get it faster for you, he always puts his order in right when we are getting blanks cut, and his prices are real close to ours. thanks amigo, and i pray ordering a martin knife will never again turns into such a headache for you. we value all of our customers and when we get your order nailed down, give me your t-shirt size so i can get one out to you. thanks again,----------newt--------

No problem. Actually I called today and put 2 MA5's on order. After talking to my brother last night I had to bump the order quantity to 2.

I was surprised the Quote # was only 168!

I should be all set.

By the way, I had to order the MA5 Drevenak Attack after seeing the below on Jim Behring's website (sold of course).

I cannot speak to Martin knives as I have never dealt directly with them.

But Bill, :thumbup: , at Michigan Knives has been a stand up straight shooter to me.
As a matter of fact, I think he does a lot of dealing as a hobby. He loves knives and promotes some quality makers (think Ingram, G L Drew, May, Dozier, Behring, etc.). Look at the margins, and the wait time on some of the makers and manufacturers he carries. Add in handling, the cost of business, and he ain't making squat. Plus, the man knows knives and I respect his opinion. :D
If I was a maker or needed some fresh exposure and Bill agreed to carry my stuff... well that would say a lot (IMVHO) in my book.

Damn, now I let one of my cats out of the bag.

Add, I do second your thoughts. I actually talked to Bill about Martin yesterday and he encouraged me to place my order directly with Martin... since he knows I will love the knife. Done.
