As of late 2012-present can I have some feedback from Mr. Martin swinkels work quality? I've read some negative comments about him but that was before he became a fulltime sheath maker on March 2012

Mr. Swinkels was recently banned, due to failure to deliver or communicate. There are quite a few threads about it here in the feedback forum.
By all accounts he does beautiful work, but that means nothing if one fails to provide customer service.

Got a fast response from Martin. I requested a technical kydex. He suggested a $60 down but I think on his site he required I think 20 euros. I haven't converted it yet but I'm. Sure $60 isn't the same as 20 euros. Should I go for it?

I think you need to actually read the most recent threads about him. There are several people who've paid and received nothing.

I picked up a used Swinkels leather/kydex sheath off the exchange. I don't know anything about his customer service, but the sheath was well designed and had good workmanship. I keep the knife in the sheath and pull it out fairly often and I've never had a scratch from the kydex insert. No rattles either. Not the worst sheath you could buy.

We've been emailing back and forth. I told him I'll pay him in full. And also I spoke with paypal customer service and set up an agreement were they won't release the money to him until there's a confirmed shipping. Then he said he'll ship it in 1 to 2 weeks. It might actually work out.

As of today, 20 Euros = 26.12 Dollars. Why would he ask for so much more than €20? Ya might want to read those threads...

Sounds like you have already made up your mind. I hope it goes well for you, but after all the advice , reference reading, and warnings, if it goes bad for you, PLEASE do not post the drama here and expect sympathetic responses. Good luck!

If you can read all those posts and still want to pay that guy any amount of money up front, more power to ya.

Any verbal agreement with PayPal will be trumped by the printed Terms Of Service agreement you have with them. I STRONGLY suggest keeping the payment arrangement within the normal PayPal protection provisions. If you pay him with PayPal and have nothing IN HAND, not just tracking, 3 weeks later (1 more week than he says he needs to ship) you are still well within the time limit to file a claim saying you never received your purchase and MAYBE PayPal can get your money back IF the guy has it in his account.

If you go with whatever arrangement you think you have with PayPal, just ask them about getting your money back in the event he tricks them into releasing the funds by getting a tracking number for an empty box.
Will they give you your money back even if they can't collect from Swinkles?

Be sure to let us know how it works out.

Thanks Paul, I was just thinking this as I read the thread.

Woah! i got an email from him a few minutes ago and asked me if i was the one who started this thread...apparently he still keeps up on this forum.

It was with great regret to read about the banning of Martin on bladeforums. I am one of his oldest customers in the US and always found him to be of high character with excellent craftsmanship. I am disappointed for those who had difficulty and understand their frustration. I have shipped multiple knives to him before and received them back (with sheaths) without any difficulty. I hope it all works out for you.

There are lots of great sheathmakers around. I'm not sure why I would ever use one with a questionable reputation when I could get an equally good product (or better) from someone else with a good, solid reputation.

But maybe that is just me...

You've been given the opinion you asked for. Were informed that Mr. Swinkels has been banned from the forums due to improper business practices while on this forum. At this point, if you persist with the deal and something goes wrong, don't say you weren't warned. It's great that he keeps up with the thread, too bad he can't be bothered to make contact and deliver items to his customers.
