Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I posted here, time to change that :) I'd like to show you this Masakage knife I rehandled with mammoth molar and bog oak. It was quite a challenge!

Please let me know what you think, I'm most interested in your opinions!

I think Frederiek is a female, this knife has something delicate like a women's touch,if it's a man not meant to insult you,on the contrary!

I am itching to try out a masakage blade, that is one sweet knife and the handle work looks just about perfect. Is this the traditional removable type Wa handle?

That looks awesome. I have a small Masakage Koishi ko-bunka which I really like. I am just wondering how heavy is that mammoth stuff handle - where is not the center of mass of the knife?

Thanks a lot everyone! Glad you like it :) Criticism is of course just as welcome.

You are right!

Yes it is, I heated it up a little in hot water to soften the waxy substance inside the handle and with a few light taps it came off. Unlike several other handles I did that I had to destroy with a chisel. And I REALLY like the blade!

Surprisingly, it is somewhere in the middle (just in front of the bolster). The original handle weighted next to nothing so the balance was near the tip then, the mammoth isn't as heavy as I expected.

I think a little edc version would work as well, like no bigger then a hand with a leather sheath... I'd love that!

Quite nice. How do you make the recess in the handle material for the blade tang, and how is it fixed in place? I have a masakage knife I would love to rehandle someday.

Thanks for your reactions!

I like the EDC idea :)

The material is simply drilled and filed to shape, being particularly careful on the bolster fit, and then fixed with epoxy adhesive (I fill up the whole thing). I glued it together before shaping but if the mammoth wasn't such a tough material to work with I'd have the handle pretty much ready before fitting.
