Mass drop Millit knife opinions?

Millit is producing a lot of hawk design knives. Most notably the MUDD AUTO I’m about to take delivery on in a week. They pride themselves on working for CRK for a long time and extended those principles into what they do. I’m interested

I’m on the fence due to the low hardness of the steel. Overall still looks like a real winner

For those wondering, Massdrop is taking care of the warranty, but as to how the chain works I'd imagine that Millit, WE or whoever will be involved. When my Falcon seemed to be damaged goods on arrival, both Massdrop and WE responded quickly to my post on IG. WE actually shipped a set of bearings to Massdrop. As it was, I fixed it myself (shavings worked their way into the track after the oil-pack wore off).

I now need to return the Falcon as the titanium is obviously bad, I've had 2 YouTube reviewers have the lock fail on them. Both fixed it, temporarily. One of the reviewers was Zelrick42, who distributes WE in North America. And he said to return to Massdrop.

TBH, I'm not keen on Millit's manufacturing YMMV. And Massdrop has taken buyer's criticisms to heart, the Massdrop logos are getting smaller and smaller. TBH, the one on my Falcon is large - larger than the Crux, but it's also not as dark as it appears in videos. I'm not crazy about it, but it doesn't bug me that much either.

I love Nitro V, but I don't know how good the HT will be on this knife. Tough choice. I am on the fence as well..

Really? So, if Wal-Mart was running this deal instead of Massdrop, you'd be okay with a "Wal-Mart" logo on the blade? Or do you think that somehow Massdrop is more prestigious than Wal-Mart? They seem to be right there alongside Woot as the Wal-Mart of the Internet - do they not?

Another example is the shirt you wear most often that has no logo. Would you still wear it just as much and just as happily if it had a "Massdrop" logo on it?

To each his own, but not for me.

I'm not sure why a logo on a blade would stop someone from buying it. It's not like it's a super high end piece that's going to be put on show, it's a reasonably priced knife that is supposed to be used and I'm 99% sure the logo won't impede cutting performance.

Yep, if it was a good knife and had Wal-Mart on it I'd use it. It would be in my pocket out of sight about 90% of the time anyway.

If it had a Wal-Mart logo on the blade and I had the knife, I would use it, too. I just won't pay good money for that privilege.

I wouldn't care if it said Walmart or shit knife on it. if its good who cares. I can also modify it or just choose not to buy it.

Also not a fan of the logo size. A small md next to the steel or model name is fine.
Also not a fan of millit from a past experience but I think their work is good.

I seriously do not understand why people are so upset by the logo. I don't notice it on my Gent or Falcon, it's something so minor to raise such a big stink over. They are making the knife in an exclusive run, so they can brand it however they please. You bring a knife to market, you can brand it how you want.

Massdrop is far more involved with the development of their knives than Wal-Mart could ever hope to be. They're an active participant in design and testing, offering feedback to both the manufacturer and the designer. Massdrop has a group of "advisors" who are knife enthusiast like you and me that evaluate the prototypes extensively. Perfect example, the choil on the upcoming Prism is being changed slightly as a direct result of the Massdrop community evaluation and commentary.

Your comparison doesn't hold water. True, Massdrop doesn't actually manufacture the knife, but they're largely responsible for bringing the product to market. The most involved a retailer like Wal-Mart might be would to require a certain type of packaging and a required resale price.

Massdrop is taking on a very interesting role in the manufacture of production knives, one that fills a needed niche in the market. You should spend some time visiting their boards and your opinion would hopefully change.

This is far closer to a Spyderco logo on a knife designed and made by Lionsteel than the corporate branding you infer.

I hadn't heard about the Falcon failures. Can you share what you know and what you mean by "titanium is obviously bad"...I'm wondering if I need to send mine back.

Thanks!

Hmm dare I say the argument that if it didn’t have a logo, would you still buy it ? Of course you would still. But I don’t dare say. :p

What makes you think anybody is upset about the logo? Of course they can brand the knife however they please. No one is making a big stink, except the Massdrop fans. Massdrop is just another seller to me. No one is upset about the logo, for some of us it just makes us less likely to purchase the knives that have Massdrop logos. So what?

On the other hand, if there are several of us who have already stated that we are less likely to purchase knives with Massdrop logos, then I guess I really am glad I decided against it. In case I ever decided to put one on the Exchange or the Bay at a later date... you know, in case somebody who's not as savvy about knives saw that and said "oh, that's one of those Massdrop knives they got at a big discount - they're asking how much?"

If Massdrop is so involved in the development of knives, then I'm confused as to why their lead features when I just pulled the website up were quilts and candles? Do they have groups of "advisors" who are candle and quilt enthusiasts and are active participants in the design and testing of quilts and candles?

That really would be interesting!

Here's the bottom line, my friends. I'm not upset about the logo, and I don't know anyone else who is upset about it either. But it reduces the monetary value of the knife TO ME. Maybe not to anyone else. But if I was willing to pay $70 for a particular knife - if it has a logo on the blade that says Massdrop or Wal-mart or BladeHQ or Billy Bob's Knife and Dime - then the value TO ME of that $70 knife just dropped to about $55 or so.

This is just my opinion, and doesn't effect anybody else's purchase decisions except mine. Is anybody upset about that?

I'm glad you buy what you like. I'd hate to think your purchases were influenced otherwise. I only tried to let you know that your outlook on Massdrop and it's growing role in the knife community might be incomplete. I also tried to share my opinion that Massdrop branding is a far cry from Wal-Mart branding, which you compared it to.

I'm not a Massdrop apologist, I just like to keep things accurate and clear.

Rather than just one look, maybe dig a little deeper into the Massdrop communities that are pertinent to our shared hobby; Blades. There's a lot of cool stuff going on in there. Or not, whatever you decide works for you. I guess at the end of the day the knife market will decide what Massdrop knives are worth and what the resale market will be for them.

Thanks for your input! I have purchased a couple of knives from Massdrop, but I haven't checked out their Blades forum or their EDC forum. Based on your suggestion, I'll take a look.

I hope I didn't come across like a jerk in my earlier posts. I was just trying to find an effective way to state my opinions.

for some people they just take photos of their knives instead of using them.

No, not at all. I understand your preferences and I appreciated hearing them. I felt like I was sounding like a Massdrop fanboy. I look forward to hearing what you think!
