Im getting into making knives and I am wondering if there are any knifemakers in Massachusetts that are willing to let me watch them grind blades? Thanks in advance

come on down.... we have a ton of guys in the area. check out NECKA.net
we're having a hammer-in its listed on the threads.... you can see the best grinder in the knife making industry do a demo Jim Siska

I've said this too many times, bit it's still true:

I learned more watching Jim Siska grind for 20 minutes than I did for a year on my own. MAKE THE TRIP!

I second that! Jim was just like "well you do this and this and hold this angle" BZZ BZZ BZZ BZZ and he had a blade hollow ground ready to go, amasing!
 
the hammer-ins are the best way to really get to know guys from around the area. Everyone will be available to talk with and no typing is invovled

Paul,

Yeah, I know, that typing stuff has got you baffled :eek: LOL. It's always better having a face to face with a good knife maker, and Jim Siska is definately one of the very best around.

As these guys have said, their are a lot of knifemakers in the Mass. RI area, their will be a hammer in at Indian George's house in April, check out his posting and get in touch with him.
 
JD Smith teaches a bladesmithing class at Mass College of Art. I started there and learned tons. It's also nice to have access to a good shop without dropping a bunch of money up front. Once I was sure I would keep going, I slowly began purchsing my own equipment.

You aint gonna get a better offer than that,Jon-IG is wealth of info-just don't tell him,it'll go to his head!!:D
 
Wow I would love to come down. Boxborough is near acton, littleton, stow. But yeah if you can put up with my questions.
