Does anyone know which knife/knives Mr. Ayoob carries in his appearances on Personal Defense TV on the Outdoor Network each week? There was an episode recently where he was speaking about how prudent it is to have redundancies built in to your day to day living, especially as it relates to self defense. Mr. Ayoob removed two knives from his pockets and laid them on a table in front of him. The second knife appeared to be a Spyderco Military or Para Military, I'm not sure. The first knife was larger but I didn't recognize it. Does anyone know? Just curious. He also has a Spyderco clip showing in his right pocket whenever he is shown with the host, Tom Gresham. I'm guessing it is a Military. Interestingly the knives that I have gotten a quick glimpse of do not appear to be anything like his Massad Ayoob Spyderco that has been discussed on this forum.

I must say, regarding Personal Defense TV, I really look forward to this show every week and by far and away my favorite segments are those prepared by Massad entitled "Action Plan". Really well done and super informative. Common sense plays into all of it. As I have a CCW permit, I plan on reading his book "In the Gravest Extreme" as it appears to be a must read for anyone who decides to carry a handgun for self defense purposes. Just curious on the knives if anyone knows.

Thanks

The shows are very informative with good shooting segments done with Clint Smith at Thunder Ranch each week as well as educaional pieces at Gunsite and Valhalla. The shows are in reruns at the moment as they started airing them in October. I will like to attend some classes at Gunsite and perhaps Mr. Ayoob's Lethal Force Institute. You think you know how to shoot and protect yourself in a self defense situation, but you soon realize you know very little and really need to be trained properly if you plan to carry a gun or knife for self defense purposes.

I didn't even know this show existed, but I'm defnitely going to look for it. What is the day and time it normally airs? I like Massad, I used to read his articles in gun mags all the time, back in the eighties and nineties. Glad to hear he's still at it, giving good advice to all those in need of it.

I didn't know either, now I want to see it.

I would guess at least one of his personal carry knives would be his knife design the Ayoob, which is C60 in this picture.

That site shows just about every design so, you should be able to ID it for us.

Do a search in this forum. Mas was discussing his knife in this very forum a few weeks ago. ;)

Who knows, if this thread lasts long enough for him to notice, he might even respond himself.

Hi,

Personal Defense TV, as have all the Outdoor Channel shooting shows, have been moved to one day a week now...Tuesday. So if you like shooting shows, they air in the afternoon from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 EST, and then are repeated again twice more later in the evening. So if you like gun shows, you can sit back and watch all of them in one night, back to back, instead of having to remember various days and times that the shows previously aired on.

The shows are: Cowboys, Shooting Gallery, Shooting USA, Guns and Ammo TV, American Rifleman and Personal Defense TV. Again, they are repeated all night so there is plenty of opportunity to catch them again.

Regarding Massad's knives, I'm fairly certain one is a Military and I didn't think the other was his personal edition knife, but I'm not sure. I know it looked definitely larger than the Military, which is why I thought it may be the Para Military.

Enjoy the shows on Tuesday.

Highly recommended if your carrying a firearm w/ a CCW or have a firearm at home for self-defense.

I saw that show. It almost looked like one was a large tanto Voyager from cold steel and the one from his shirt seemed to be a Spyderco, Endura shaped blade maybe Military was hard to tell.

Hi,

I just googled the Cold Steel Tanto Voyager and you are right, it did look a lot like that knife. Not sure if it was or not, but it certainly had the same appearance. You have a good eye.

I am a graduate of a few LFI courses since I live about one hour away from Concord, NH where Mas runs his classes. He is a fantastic instructor and I would not hesitate to recommend him if you ever get the chance. He does a lot more than firearms. Although I have not taken any of his courses lately, he always had a Spyderco in his right front pocket when I saw him. The Cold Steel sighting leaves me with a shiver.

Hi,

Can you tell me, in your opinion, how Mr. Ayoob's firearm self defense instruction classes may differ from those offered at Gunsite, Thunder Ranch, Valhalla or the Smith and Wesson Academy? I want to take one or two of these classes as I have my CCW and am trying to determine the differences, if any. Also, I believe LFI does knife defense courses as well as Gunsite. Certainly the East coast location works well for me. LFI or S&W are driveable where Gunsite and Thunder Ranch would require long flights. Just wondering in case anyone knows or has had personal experiences with any of these academies.

Thanks

I have certainly heard of Gunsite, Thunder Ranch and others, but only have experience with LFI and the Sig Academy, been to both. I think LFI is the best of those two mentioned, if Mas teaches the class you will work hard, very rewarding experience. Sig Academy is pretty good to, especially the low light courses. Either way you can't loose.

I've heard good things about the Sig Academy, at least as instructed with Bruce Gray. He's all about proper trigger control....rightfully so.

I think, however, that I would relate very well to Massad and his extraordinary communicative skills. I love his writings and ability to clearly express his thoughts in a way that drives the point home. Can you assure with LFI that Massad will be your instructor for a given course or might you get someone else teaching the course? Not that it would be a bad thing, but I think personally, I would relate better to Massad and his method of teaching. Working hard at the course is a plus in my book and is exactly what I am looking for. I think, as you confirmed, he would be a wonderful teacher with very few peers.

Sorry guys if I've strayed a bit off the knife topic, but it is a self defense type question.

Thanks
