Massdrop/Laconico Keen

I want it but I can't do it. I don't care if it means I can't buy any more knives, ever, I refuse to buy another knife that has the name of the store that sold it written on the blade.

I won't buy any knives that have a knifecenter or bladehq billboard either, FWIW.

If Laconico designs it and WE makes it and massdrop sells it what about USPS who delivered it or the webhost that displayed the web page to me or the Internet provider I used to browse the site?

I'm drawing the line at the designer and the maker. Additional parts of the supply chain beyond that should not have their names on my knives. Screw massdrop.

Sometimes, it’s like...

Yeah. I just made that for the occasion.

Got mine today... I've taken delivery of nearly all of the Massdrop We knives and this is the first one to go right in the pocket without hesitation.

Flipping geometry is incredible. Blade is robust but pretty slicy, with an almost leaf shape. Shaving sharp out of the box. The detent ball is very close to the lock engagement, which is nice.

The backspacer seems a little weighty but it feels appropriately solid in hand. I too wish the Massdropping of logos on blades didn't exist or was at least more subtle. I'm not into machined clips, but the length and thinness makes it work well.

The finish on the bronze I received is borderline memorizing. Great job overall, and a proper execution IMO.

I guess somehow I drew some sort of demonic short straw on horrific shipping time from Massdrop. "Shipped" as of 11/9 and has been crawling its way across the country since, with a scheduled delivery date of 11/21.

Is Fedex on the brink of bankruptcy or something? Are they down to like, 3 trucks total? New policy of "We refuse to deliver in less than 10 working days"? Stuff like that might explain it.

A few of my Massdrop purchases have shipped DHL, despite having a Fedex or USPS tracking number... I think we all know how quickly DHL delivers :/

I think it's because Massdrop uses Fedex Smartpost. Fedex moves it from the shipping warehouse and turns it over to the USPS distribution center for your postal code. Then the USPS completes the slow motion process by delivering to your mailbox via crippled, blind mules.

That's my biggest complaint about Massdrop...spend a little more and get us some real shipping options instead of DHL and Smartpost.

Mine was the same. Took 12 days to get to me. Fed Ex uses SmartPost which mean they put it on a slow moving speed limited Fed Ex truck first. Mine made stops in at least 6 different cities going to the east coast to the west coast. Usually sitting in each city for a full day or two. Once it gets to you area, they then hand it off to USPS which adds another day or two. I guess it's super cheap. I would be more than happy to pay a few dollars more for a Small Flat Rate Box.

Yeah I definitely won’t be choosing free shipping from massdrop again.

I understand that. I decided to pay the extra $5 for faster shipping, since Fedex smartpost is about the slowest way to go. The extra $5 got it shipped regular fedex ground.

Received mine yesterday and shipped on monday so 5 days... not to bad. I like it!

Must be careful of finger placement, any pressure on lock bar makes it VERY difficult to open on mine.

Who's picked one of these up? Tell us your thoughts. I'm currently kicking myself for not grabbing one from the original drop, but the word is that they will be available again for purchase soon, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

But yeah, who has one? Love to hear some thoughts and see some pics!
Dammit halden.doerge, you just put me further in debt.

I would like this knife more if it were smaller. I think the design would be more attractive as a "mini." It looks like an over-sized gentleman's knife.

The only thing about it that suggests “gentleman’s folder” is the clean aesthetic. It’s .16” thick, full flat ground S35VN, with ti slab construction. Pretty straightforward user. I like the choice of production size, personally.

So... no more “Nascar sponsorship” knives? :p
