Master hunter custom handle

Hi mate when i shake the knife you can hear it wobbling a bit it’s like the tang is not fully adhered to the Kraton if i grip it tightly from the tube at the bottom it dose not rattle
That, in my un-expert opinion, sounds like it might be fixed by the ball-bearing-flare-the-tube idea mentioned earlier.

Or, if you are a little more skilled (and daring) push out the brass tube, slide the handle off and then re-assemble using a good helping of epoxy inside to fill in the gaps and hold things in place. Then re-insert the tube and re-flare. This is not my idea, I have seen others post this method before. Seems to have worked for them, take that for what it’s worth I suppose.

I wished I had the skill set to do this mate I wouldn’t know how to go on with it especially getting the tube out lol I’d definitely make them worse

Fallkniven fixed blades are made.by Ichiro Hattori and his students........Since moving production to Japan!

I'm not 100% but although very.similar the Cold Steel knives Were made by someone else.........

I have rehandled a couple cold steel knives including with the rattle problem when the kraton comes loose from the tang. It's not hard but it takes some tools.
1. cut off brass tube
2. get 3 pieces of micarta/wood/g10/carbon fiber, one for the guard one for the main handle one for the pommel
3. drill then file a hole through the guard piece for a very precise fit over the tang - this is the step that requires the most work, it needs to seat correctly square against the blade on all sides and not able to budge forward at all
4. Drill/file a hole through the main handle part to slide over the tang, doesn't need to be as precise but not a loose fit
5. this part is a bit tricky: you need to drill into - but not through - the pommel so it will slide over the tang, but don't expose the tang at the butt - then also drill a hole through the side to insert a new metal tube to secure it.
6. Glue everything in place - I used JB Weld
7. Use a belt sander to shape the handle, then finish with files and sandpaper

Lol im a complete numpty i couldnt complete this task mate damn i wished i was as clever as you today i managed to slide a metal meat skewers down past the guard part and I squirted some gorilla superglue into it kept it pinched tightly with my hand for 5 mins and it’s actually worked really well I was very surprised it’s held

Here's a thread showing some possibilities, should you choose to give it a try some day:

I'm glad your gorilla glue method seems to have fixed the problem for now. I too have a Japanese made Master Hunter with a kraton handle that has gotten a little loose from the tang. So far I have been able to overlook it, but some day I will try my hand at a custom handle.

I’ve been quoted £170 for a new handle put on Willy plus £15 postage jeez the knife it’s self was only £97 from knives and tools uk I think I’ll just try the gorilla superglue on the other one with the loose handle the other one I have isn’t as bad as the one I’ve fixed today so I may just leave it

I hope you get around to doing it what kind of material will you use for the handle ?

Oh yeah, I totally understand that the numbers aren't in your favor right now. I know David Mary and he does excellent work, but he's right to caution you re the costs.

I just thought it couldn't hurt to show some inspiration in the event you decide to do something in the future.

Yeah David told me it costs a a lot to have this work done I would also charge the same if I could do such tasks lol it’s a lot of work at first I thought why so much money it’s just a master hunter handle but in reality it’s so much more the 3v one you just showed me is brilliant really fine work I’ll gave to get one of the 3v models to join my collection 😁

It's not that I would want to nickel and dime you, but making a handle for a knife is often more than half the cost of the knife. And then international shipping, etc. I would make you two brand new knives for probably about the same as what it would end up costing you to have me rehandle those two knives.

Your a great guy David I’d love for you to make me a knife similar to the master hunter but with a better handle is that something you could consider doing for me maybe a 5 inch blade 5 inch handle would you be to make me it in 0-1 tool steel or whatever steel you could suggest

Be great to own one of your knives
