Master Mechanic Knives

Thanks for the information guys! It does sound like a Craftsman would be the ticket for xbxb. And parnass, glad you dropped in here...keep up the hunt.

If you do find a Desert Dive knife, please make sure it has a thong...I like thongs, and I wouldn't want to lose it while diving in the sand.
Oh no...a particularly gruesome subliminal image regarding thongs just passed before my eyes...  ...make it stop!!

I am becoming a firm believer in rechecking stores I had checked before. Yesterday's finds at (what I thought was a pretty well 'mined out' True Value Hardware store:
Two MM89s and one Sharpfinger 152OT.
One MM89 came in the box, no paperwork. It is tang stamped MM89/U.S.A., MASTER MECHANIC on the shield.
The other MM89 came in the plastic bag, (obviously not original packaging) and has dried oil on the blade. The master blade is etched "MASTER MECHANIC" as is the shield, however the tang stamp says; SCHRADE/U.S.A. 89OT.
Both knives sold for $34.95. Not a great deal but not bad either.
Apparently there were at least 2 different versions of this knife made for True Value. I have another MM89 (from ebay), which as near as I can tell is just an 89OT in a MM89 box. Does anyone else have another version, or know how many versions of this knife were made for True Value Hardware?

The 152OT is a regular Sharpie in a Old Timer blue & beige box. It was $26.99, not bad considering what they bring on ebay these days.
