Thanks for all the good wishes everyone. I expect everybody here to come to the Oregon show in Eugene to see my certificate. Its a hellava fun time there!

Good luck Bruce and Bruce, something tells me both will do well.

Bruce B., I'm just getting into damascus, so I don't think I can help much, but here goes.

I saw anouther Mastersmith aplicant a while back, and he showed me his test blade prior to destruction. It was almost 1 1/2" wide, looked about 3/16" thick at ricasso and tapered to the point. It had a random pattern that looked like 1084-1095 and L-6. The edge quench was closer to a 1/4 of the blade than a 1/3. I believe he has made several blades like it and tested them and they passed.

I have destroyed a few damascus blades that I was not happy with for one reason or anouther. All high carbon ones acted just like a homogenius blade, provided the welds were good.

Just looking at your blades, I'd bet you will have no problem. :)

Thanks Will, I think you are right on about the dimensions and the 1/4" edge hardening. Audra Draper bent hers to 90 deg. back and forth 19 times before it fatigued and broke.
