I have a gem for sale today! This is a five knife set from the original Masters of Defense team in a custom walnut burl box made by Edd Lucas. A knife set like this has only emerged a few times for sale, but this set has the lowest serial to ever be sold, or ever even photographed.

This lot includes the following:
  • 1 MOD Trident by Chief "Patches" Watson
  • 1 MOD Tempest by Michael Janich
  • 1 MOD Hornet by James Keating
  • 1 MOD Lady Hawk by Graciella Casillas-Boggs
  • 1 MOD Razorback by Massad Ayoob
  • Custom walnut burl encasement made by Edd Lucas
  • 5 Original MOD Knife paper boxes with foam inserts and pocket clips where applicable
  • An issue of Blade Magazine from 08/1998 that has an article about this set
  • A bill of sale between Edd Lucas and myself that details and serves to authenticate the set

I had the pleasure of meeting Edd and he was able to authenticate these knives. Each knife has been serialized identically as #13 in 1998. Each of the five knives been hand ground by Walter Brend, and high polished to a mirror shine. All of these knives are identical in condition, which is perfect. No blemishes, no scratches. The blades have not been retouched, stropped, or honed. This set has been a time capsule for over 17 years and is absolutely pristine.

The walnut burl encasement is quite large and heavy. It features a hinged lid and a 45 degree chamfer around the lid. There is a floating panel in the lid that sits about 1/2" above center (also walnut burl) and has been laser etched with two MOD logos and the words "Masters of Defense". The interior is a plush pigskin suede in perfect condition. The knifes are kept in place by the suede headliner of the lid when closed.

I have included a few pictures for this listing, but a complete photo library in much higher quality can be found on my Flickr account HERE.

Asking price for the set is a net $2950. If you are interested and without the entirety of the funds, I am willing to work out payment plans over a short period of time. Send me an offer if you think this set is for you. The worst I could ever say is 'no'. I will cover shipping to any of the US48. I am willing to ship internationally, but please contact me to get a shipping quote.

It's unlikely that another set like this will emerge, especially in this condition. This is a one-of-a-kind, real deal, piece of tactical knife history. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to see additional pictures. Email me directly at rplanalp@gmail.com or PM.
