Hi all, I'm looking for some input on the MOD Massad Ayoob RAZORBACK fixed blade they have in their product line. Any experiences with it be positive/negative are welcome.
Keep sharp, Bagheera

You may want to search the gen'l discussion year 1 archive & the knife review forums. I had been interested in this piece & remember seeing a few threads. Comments that I recall are that it has a partial tang & that some remarked that the thickness & blade geometry limited its usefulness. Personally, I question having the wisdom of having "Lethal Defense Institute" marked on the blade.

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, Babe, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride.

Hello Brian, thanks for the update I did some searching and found a lot of info. I think there are better ways of spending $159 then buying the Razorback because it doesn't seem to do it's name any honour. It seems it's not that razorsharp and is more a ice-pickish kind of stabbing weapon.
I will ask for the CS Kobun as part of the swap deal I've going together with the Carbon V CS Trailmaster (instead of the MOD razorback).
Thanks again, Bagheera

I got one, and contrary to popular belief, it can be made sharp. I got a nice edge on mine, but it has a huge edge bevel on it now. I refer it as my "Combat Bait Knife". I have a long piece of paracord on the sheath and wear it around me waist when I wear shorts. It hangs along my right thigh under my shorts. I think it carries best that way since it is too darn heavy for neck carry.

On another note, I got mine in a trade. If I were to pay that much cash for a knife, I think I would go the custom route. Probably get alot more bang for the buck. I think that most of the razorbacks sold are done so for people to have all 5 of the knives in the MOD series. That is where mine came from actually, a guy wanted the whole series, but then decided to let go of the combat bass knife. It serves me well for what it is, but it ain't worth the asking price.

Having read a bit of what Massad Ayoob has to say about preparing oneself for dealing with dangers in the legal system as one prepares to deal with dangers on the street, I wonder. In what jurisdiction does he think a civilian could legally carry a concealed fixed blade knife that is designed expressly as a stabbing weapon, and says "Lethal Force" right there on the blade?! Of course, anything etched "Masters of Defense" violates the fundamental rule on explaining any knife that comes to the attention of law enforcement - Never tell a cop you're carrying a knife "for protection"!
