Bear Grylls only does what he does for the entertainment part of the show. I am sure he knows his stuff, he just does this because it is likely what Discovery wants for him to do.

Little known behind the scenes stuff but Ron Hood was one of the original producers of the show.

He was involved with the filming of the first few episodes and quit the show because he felt that they were being irresponsible by showing Bear doing such dangerous stunts. He said the whole thing was a circus or some such thing.

That said, he also said he had alot of respect for Bears abilities and knowlege and as of a year ago he said he still talked to Bear on a regular basis.
