Hey there, I need help identifying these scales. I ordered a SLUT with black canvas micarta, and got an email confirming that I won the knife I wanted but this stuff feels like G10 to me.

I never felt canvas micarta in person so I wanna ask you guys. I wet it and it absorbed no water which leads me to believe its G10.

Thanks!

That looks like black PAPER, not canvas, then again, it looks like wet canvas

Still a sweet knife though

oh, micarta feels soft, smooth (mostly), but yet still grippy

Sweet score Reguardless!

But does not look like black paper to me, nor does it look like G10 quite?

Better lighting on the Pic would have helped.

It also looks much darker than my black canvas micarta did, unless I got it wet.

But it looks like I can see the fibers in the material, so I would say it is black canvas.

In my experience, black paper has very intricate light texture within it, black canvas (pictured) has a more fibrous pattern and black g-10 is pure black except for machine markings.

What he said, It looks like black canvas micarta to me as well. I think they are using better tools to make the handles now so the cuts just look cleaner.

This is the only pic I have with good lighting, but its not really a closeup..

I have a RAT rc3 with linen micarta and it feels more textured and grippy, more cloth like. This stuff feels really hard and smooth just like g10. Thanks for the help guys.

I believe that it's G-10. Has a similar look to my BATAC user which has the black G-10 handles.

ETA: I suggest that you send an email with these pix attached to Amy or Lexi this week...They can get a definite answer for you and if needed or wanted, Busse can take care of you from there.

Yeah, in better lighting it does look like g-10

anyway, be happy!!

G-10 cost more so you got a deal!!:D;)

Linen Micarta, Canvas Micarta & G10 are all Epoxy resin based. The difference is in the materials used as a sub-structure to give them strength.

The ESEE linen & canvas micartas look different, but this is because they are made differently. The ESEE handles don't appear to be cut to shape, they are formed some how. It leaves the canvas & linen materials exposed with a very rough texture.

The Busse handles are cut from large blocks of material. The only canvas and linen material you can see is what is exposed by the cutting process.

I have a lot of each makers knives and personally prefer the feel of the Busse handles.

G-10 for sure.

You can tell by the black color, tight pores, reflective nature (light) and the appearance of the fibers.

Looking at the top angle it does look like g10, but the pics from the side look like canvas. Canvas does have an overall grey-green color in retrospect and I have to reconsider that it looks more like g10 the longer I look at it. It is my understanding that the g10 has no fiber in it and the micarta does to help substantiate the polymer. G10's texture comes from machining as it has been described to me.

.

Looks like G10 to me, but I don't have it in hand, so I can't be 100% sure......

Are you saying the busse canvas micarta would not be a "grippy" as the ESEE micarta? That's the only reason I wanted the canvas, for more grip because I was planning on carrying this daily. If the g10 and the canvas feel the same then its perfect the way it is.

Thanks for the help guys!

Looks like G10 to me as well...or they're playing with that silly "grip enhancer" again.

There is no doubt in my mind that it is G10. Look here for comparisons:
