Materials that quickly dull an edge

Cardboard boxes dull my Manix 2 LW CTS BD1 in no time. I am switching to a box cutter for that task but then again, what other uses can I find for my folders (I don't have that many mails to open nor do I use folders in the kitchen)?

I'll second cardboard. You would think it's like paper where you could cut miles and miles of it, yet it will dull non super steels pretty quickly.

People dull knives quickly. Interpret that however you like. [emoji48]

Thank the Lord for the way cooler Razor blade Knifes we have today. Save your edges and use a razor blade knife instead.

No thanks, tried'm and hate'm.
I'd rather dull one of my blades and resharpen than use one of those.

Ceramic gasket material for refinery kilns, I don't know if I've ever seen a material dull ELMAX or any other steel so quickly. I cut two strips 3 inches wide not knowing what the material was, and my knife when from shaving to butter knife sharp just like that.

Not much of a fan of the little utility knives with the portions of the blade that you remove and move the stack forward for use. They are just too thin for me. I guess that is what people refer to as "razor blades".

Of the thinks I routinely cut, card board is the worst. That lava in the other thread might tend to dull a knife. I cut "rocks/soil" from time to time and they certainly will take an edge off a knife. :D

I am actually switching back to razor blades for cutting cardboard boxes. Cardboard is just too harsh on my expensive knives. They will not damage those knives but scratch them up all over. I mean I can have several utility blades sharpened to crazy and handy for replacement and they are dirty cheap and work magically on those boxes.

Made the funky 15 year old carpet mistake once with a fresh out the package AUS-8 SOG Trident. It was all I had available at the moment. 10 cuts or so, Even dulled the serrations. What is amazing about the knife is how well the TiNi coating has held up.

I feel your pain. I worked maintenance in a heat treating shop. Cut a lot of high temp insulation working in those furnaces.

Irrigation pipe, sandpaper, ceramic plates, cutting out shrub roots, steel wire, old carpet, sand bags. Those come to mind that is what I had to do this week but the list goes on.

Fire felt, fiberglass insulation, and ceiling tiles are some of the worst I've come across
