I hope this has not been asked alot on here, but i looked over the threads and didnt see anything so here is my question. I have the tools for making knives, and am know trying to find the materials. I am going to start off with 1080 steel to start off with(unless you guys have anything else better) then have g10 scales, liner lock. for the liners would 410 stainless work good? so my main question is where is the best place to get 1080, g10, 410(or whatever the best liner steel would be), titanium sheets, and what screws do you use? sorry for all the questions and if its repeated on here. thanks

Hot rolled, you will want to get it a bit oversized so you can grind the surface down to a acceptable finish. He has stainless that is surface ground, this is a bit easier to do a folder with (more costly), however, the HT is different. 410 will work for the liners.

Were you going to do your own HT? If not surface ground stainless may be the way to go.

Ok, thanks for the reply! i was looking but couldnt find anything on it. Yes i was planning on doing my own heat treatment... for know anyway as im just starting off. Is there a way to estamate the rc hardness? or do you have to buy one?

I would just follow the HT instructions for 1080 from the stickies, its pretty easy. Put and edge on it and do some cutting, if you like the way it cuts you are in business. I take scrap and some small blanks and do the same HT on them, I have gone as far as making a small piece that I can put and edge on to test. If I dont like it I can diagnose the problem and try again.

410 will work for liners if heat treated. Do you have the equipment to heat treat stainless? Otherwise, some 6Al4V titanium sheet is hard and springy enough to cut out and use for liners. Somewhere around .060" thickness works well for liners.

i dont have the equiptment for stainless steel, should i not get 410? is there any other better steels to use for liners? I have never made knives so i dont have the best tools for it but got enough to start. anything else you can think of that would help or i would need or would be very helpful?
