While in Portland for Blade West , I took a couple knives with me to show around to some makers I know and get some feedback ( they were not for sale at the show ). While at Bill Tuch's shop ( where I was most of the weekend learning ), Matt Cook dropped by with some of his knives.
Man he makes some dam nice stuff. This little wharrny kept talking to me. I told Bill how much I liked it and he said " Heck why don't you guys just trade, wharnny for wharnny ? "
Matt checked out a few of mine and said , heck if you want to trade , let's do it. He recently did this one , didn't even logo it yet , don't matter to me , I already put it to work on my leather working bench tonight.
I forget the steel on this one , but the hollow grinds are really dam nice , and I just love the stacked leather handle. Feels like polished glass ! Overall length is about 7 1/4" , blade is just over 2 5/8 , blade is mirror polished .
His leather work is really friggin clean as well. His work really impressed me.
Thanks again Matt.
and here is the one I traded to Matt:
Hanging at Bill's shop along with my bro Dan and Matt , it was like a meeting of the outkasts
Bill Tuch was extremely gracious to spend many hours over 3 days with me talking about knifemaking , giving me design input , showing me how he does things and correctly some flaws I have in my techniques. Great times , great learning experience , and I will certainly be back to visit him again soon , hopefully in a few months for more learning , and to get me started on folders.
He asked me to make him a knife , so that is what I did , and he even let me use his equipment to start making him a knife , that horizontal JL grinder had me drooling. Now I just have to finish it out here at home without screwing it up
