I'm in an unfortunate situation with Mr. Lamey.

In late December of 2004, I contacted him about doing some custom work on a CS trailmaster. He quoted me an amount and said that it would take him a month to do. He also said that if I paid via paypal, it would help speed things up. I paid him via paypal around the week of the new year.

One month goes by: no knife. We contact each other via email, and it turns out he's busy with a show, but would finish it soon. I, of course, like Matt, and trusted his word.

Several months go by, and there's no knife. I email him several times, requesting some sort of ETD, so that I know when to expect it. He contacts me, saying that he was "busy" or "sick" or some other reason. No ETD is ever mentioned in any of these later emails, regardless of how often I request them. Of course, I just let it slide.

It has now been about 6 months, and I finally emailed Matt telling him that I was frustrated by all this. I emailed him last Thursday, telling him that this has been very frustrating for me, and that I need some sort of ETD by Thursday. I don't care if he said "December of this year", I needed a date.

No response, of course.

No response on Friday.

I check my email today, and still no response.

So I just finished emailing him telling him that I simply need a refund on the money I sent him for the incompleted service ($150), plus a refund on the trailmaster (which I purchased on ebay for $120). The total would be $270.

This has been a frustrating experience for me, because I've read old threads complaining about this same type of thing regarding Mr. Lamey. I'm posting this thread not only to vent my frustration, but also to warn others of my experience when dealing with Mr. Lamey.

Rolando, my public apologies to you, your frustration is warranted. However, i have not recieved any emails (other then the refund email) since the one we discussed re grinding the clip.

There are a few factors this has taken so long, no reason to get into them here. The job is nearly complete and will be by the end of the day, with pics here on the forum.

yeah, i feel like sh*t for things like this, not for me but for the fine folks that have been waiting patiently (Rolando is one of a few). Again, there are what *anyone* would consider rational and legetimate reasons for the delay(s), but this is not the place to get into that. Its time for results not chat, so back to the shop for me (had to stoke up again on the coffee).

Its just a reminder i *really* need to work on my paperwork and organizational (sp?) skills.

Rolando, here is your CS Trailmaster,

Not that I have any business posting in here but I would like to say nice show of class to Matt for resolving the situation. 4 ranges, 6 months must have felt like an eternity, I get ancie (sp?) after a month.

I agree. A refreshing change from some other threads.

I am pleased it turned out like it did and envious of the knife you have comming back to you. By the pictures I would have never guessed that it used to be a TM. The flair that goes into Matts work is evident.

Matt Lamey is a man of his word. He has had a lot of stuff to deal with over the last several years and has dealt with it and is back to business making the best bang for buck usin' bowie knives on the planet.

If anyone doubts Matt, his products or his veracity, they can email me and I will be happy to vouch for him anytime, anywhere. We have done countless deals, all good, and I am happy to call him a friend, even though he refuses to get the damn JS stamp he really deserves....but thats another story.

I'm glad it all worked out also.

I'm VERY happy with how it turned out, and how it got resolved.

Might I add that I originally wanted micarta for the handle, but after this recent exchange, Matt offered to upgrade the handle to ironwood at NO EXTRA COST. I turned out down, because then I'd be unwilling to use such a pretty piece (I intend to abuse this one). But it just goes to show how far Matt was willing to go to make things right. Props to him.

Can't wait to get the knife now.

As mentioned before, beoth men should be commended for ironing things out. BTW, that is some beautiful work and a beautiful knife, Mr. Lamey
