Hello,
I seen a picture of a guard that was a great light gray color. The article said that the finish was a matte French Gray finish. Does anyone know how to achiece this finish?

CC, what material was the guard made of??? If it was steel you can get a nice gray finish by blasting it with ceramic beads. I did some 440c blades that way and it looked nice.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

L6,
Thanks for the reply. It was mild steel with engraving. Would the blasting degrade the engraving?

L6,
One more note, the engraving appeared to be completed before the piece was finished as the engraving had the same gray finish.

I have it from a good source that it would not damage the engraving, just take the shine away.
