Ok, so mattmanb had a Large bg-42 Sebenza up for sale and I PMed him and asked him if he would take $625. He replied and said $650.00. I said, "ok, I'll take it". Then he vanishes for about 15 minutes and comes back and says that someone PMed him and said "Ill take it" How would this be possible if he had offered me a counteroffer? The guy basically blew me off and screwed me at the same time to make an extra $25.00. Hell, I would have paid the extra $25.00 if he wanted it that badly. Terrible form and not one that I would recommend doing business with. Considering he has been here since 2009 you would think that he would know how to sell properly. Bad form my friend, bad form.

I hate to say it but that's the risk you take when you try to haggle someone. You may get it for a lower price... Or you may not get it at all. I would be more inclined to agree with you if he vanished for a day or two but 15 minutes? Definitely not something I would have chosen to start a negative thread about.....

I probably wouldn't have begun such a thread but I absolutely feel it would have been proper etiquette to check to see if Brendtech189 had responded to his message (indicating "$650") and agreed to the asking price (which he clearly did) before selling to another.

I wouldn't necessarily say it was bad form. Multiple pms coming in at the same time. And than someone says I'll take it for the full asking price.
I can understand both sides of this situation.

If you would have paid the extra 25.00 dollars why didn't you? You seem to have wanted the knife enough to start this thread. I don't think the seller did anything wrong on this forum.

What is the point of this thread exactly? I'd say he has the right to sell the knife to whoever he wants to for any reason at all. You gambled and lost enough said.

You're the one with unreasonable expectations. If you try to haggle somebody, you cannot assume that they are in exclusive negotiations with you. Until the deal is done and agreed upon, somebody else can come along. Your "I'll take it" was conditional on the price. The usual doctrine is that the first unconditional "I'll take it" gets it. If you wanted it that badly you should have paid the man's price rather than take the risk of getting scooped for a lousy $25.

And frankly, it's his knife and he gets to sell it to whomever he dang well pleases. Maybe he decided it wasn't worth dealing with somebody who would bust his balls over $25 and sold it to somebody else he felt more comfortable dealing with. Who knows. The thread title as it stands is borderline slanderous.

Do you get really pissed off when somebody outbids you in the last 30 seconds of an eBay auction?

This. It chaps my hide when someone offers less than asking, or says "I'll take it pending questions/photos," and then gets butt-hurt when someone else gets it b/c that someone else unconditionally accepted the seller's terms. "If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it." The bad form is all yours, Brendtech.

I am confused, what are you complaining about?
Why would the seller not want to make the extra $25, instead selling to you? Are you and the seller buddies?
If I list a knife here on BFC and you offered less than the asking price I would advise you NO and wait for the first solid offer at the asking price. You, by offering $25 less moved you rightfully to the back of the line!!!
Luckily for you Sebenzas are offered for sale here daily................................

The nature of the BEAST
Feelings get hurt
Like a kid kicking the DIRT cause he/she didnt get their way..
Stuff happens
Deals fall thru- Stuff comes up..
People make deals and go check their PM box and or email and find someone came in before you with the offer the SELLER chooses to take
NOW in my view--my 2 cents as a long time member here..
This seller may/may not have fulfilled your IDEAL expectations on a deal.
Although---He/she did nothing wrong...
As stated above..""Wolfmann601""
MANY--Many--knives come full circle and they are gone one day..BUT a better one and or deal comes along the next..
I have put MANY people on my ""Ignore List""
For choosing of my own and Im certain others have done it to me..AND thats ok..I accept the fact I for many reasons I have backed out of deals due to certain situations..IT HAPPENS..
Always know...You cant make everyone happy all the time..
Posting in here rather than dealing with it privately..THE very best way you can..MAY have been the better way too approach this..
AGAIN..My opinion..
Good luck in your time in OUR BF Family we have here.

As stated, this is not an unheard of situation. Keep in mind, a seller can sell to whomever they want. As far as starting negative threads about people, it can come full circle and bite you in the butt. I think we've all seen that happen before, an attempt to shame someone publicly for doing something we may not agree with isn't a good longterm practice. There is a lot of really sound advice offered here.

Has happen to many of us even personally, live and learn I guess. No need to really post this tho IMO. Someone beat you to it. I agree with my good friend GIZMOMAN ;)

Can't say it better myself. Seller did nothing wrong, but you did when you started this thread.

Sorry but you haggled. Haggling is NEVER definite, if you really couldn't afford to lose the chance you should have just spruced up the extra $25 or $50 instead of trying to haggle for no real reason (haggling should really only be used when you really can't afford or aren't willing to pay the stated price tag).

If you were willing to pay full asking price, you should have offered it from the beginning. You haggled and lost to someone willing to pay full price right off the bat.

He did nothing wrong.

I can't count the number of times I've been out bid by someone, both here and elsewhere. It's the nature of haggling and wheeling and dealing for things you desire to have. Never take it personal. Just pony up the dough if you want something bad enough. I'd be upset if I were the seller, and saw this thread. The seller did nothing wrong at all.
