I recently purchased an LT Wright Maverick Scout and a Blind Horse Knives Maverick Colt, I love the way they fit in the hand and the overall feel of the knife.

I had a question about "slickness", has anyone had any problems with the handles becoming to slick when wet? They are really smooth micarta handles? Is there a way to "roughen" them up if I feel they are too "slippy"?

I will post pics when the Colt arrives tomorrow.

Thanks
Mike

Great knives both.

Skateboard tape should do the trick, if you want a real grippy handle and roughing a handle up with sandpaper dont work..

I've heard mixed reviews, some said it did work and some said it didn't.
Some of the pics I have seen look like it'd make a little difference.

Thanks for the tip.

I've definitely heard of people using steel wool/scotch brite pads/sandpaper to achieve a more grippy matte kind of finish to polished micarta. Some companies, like Bark River, offer polished or matte versions of micarta scales, so it's not like micarta is inherently slippery or smooth, it's just a finish. I'll see if I can find another thread where someone did work to their scales.

I just picked up a BHK Comanche that has polished micarta. I might try sanding it. If not I'll probably use hockey tape. I like it because when it gets grimy or if you decide you don't like it you can remove it and it doesn't leave a residue behind.

Bark River uses a 600 grit compound on a buffing wheel to achieve their matte finish. I find it just enough to get a little more grip but you may want to have it a little more coarse. Another maker sand blasted his blades and handles, I thought it felt great too.

I uploaded my pics the Maverick Colt came in a day early! These are going to be a sweet pair!

I had my GNS and Woodcrafter handles sand blasted, definitely improved how they feel in hand for me.

ETA- Doh, didn't realize this was an older thread.
