is there a rateing for the top speed used on 2x72 belts. right now im runing 1750 rpm 1.5 motor. but would like to use a 3hp 3500 rpm motor i have. that would put me at a top speed of around 7000 SFPM. is that just insain or will the belt hold up. 60 grit blaze is what i use. i have a 3 step pully set up. and that would give me 1794, 3589(current top speed) and 7178 SFPM. thanks

sounds fast, i would like to know the optimum speed for a belt too if thats alright, thanks.

i called jantz and thay have a grinder that runs at 6500 SFPM and thay say it fine.

The issue is more the machine than the belts. For info on the belts, call John Williams, at Klingspor, 1-800-645-5555. He can tell you the ratings of different belts. For the machine, call the manufacturer. The bearings and wheels may not be rated for that load and speed. If all is OK with the ratings - Have at it, but be careful. Everything will happen much faster at 7000SFM, good and bad.

My grinder will run up to 9000 SFPM. And believe me that's going along pretty fast. And Stacy said it right, bad things can happy. Most of the time I run around 1900 to 2000 SFPM. Be safe out there. ------

7000 SFPM ????????? that sounds um nuts :D Why would one feel the need to grind that fast other than to remove metal at an insanely fast rate? With more speed comes more danger! Be careful !

Bader grinders show 1500 - 9000 sfpm for the B111. This is on Baders web site under machine specs. stephenbader.com is the web address

i was just wondering. im ok using 4000 SFPM. just a little slow for me but not to bad. plus my 3hp motor is an open frame better just leave it on the drill press.

For those who can't quite get their mind wrapped around 7000SFM, let me put it this way. Every minute, 1.3 miles of belt go across the blade. That works out to right at 80 MPH.

I'd step the speed down significantly. The slower speeds are very useful for things like sharpening, finishing, etc.

do thay make anything bigger than a 4 step pully. i am building a very large xy table and it would beable to hold my motor so i could control left and right as well as belt tenson. is this a good idea.
