Anyone got any intel on this Knife? All I know is it comes in a display case (no sheath) and for the price doesn't appear to be a usable knife although I could be wrong. They also are a very close copy of a Cold Steel Laredo Bowie. You can check them out on Amazon where they are out the door for about $35 shipped. Could be a very cool display piece, or not. I can't find any reviews on the net and I did a search on here but didn't turn up anything.

Stay away from that. You're first instinct was correct.

My grandfather once owned a kitchen remodeling business and had Maxam made knives with his company name. I have one or two as keepsakes but as knives they are complete garbage, shockingly bad actually. They're lockbacks and the handle scales will rattle off in your pocket, which is impressive in a lockback because in theory at least one of the pins should be under tension from the spring/lockbar but on these the whole batch had springs that aren't bent enough to make contact. Stay clear of Maxam knives.

I've only seen one Maxam, a folder, and it was laughably poor in every way—except the edge, which was as sharp as I've seen a knife come. Just two brittle plastic scales with a bunch of sprue along the edges, a super thin liner lock, and a weird pivot that refused to be tightened. The blade would flex laterally, the tip would move right or left maybe half an inch, and of course the lock would disengage. Dangerous.

So quality... I wouldn't count on it.

Might be OK, if you leave it in the display case. It was made to look at - not to be used.

Currently maxam is just hit or miss cheap China stuff because they're just a name now, but they used to be a German cutlery company a veeerrrrrryyyyyy long time ago.

Maxam makes non-functional replicas nowadays. Don't bother, check out the Svord Von Tempsky bowie instead.

In the 1980s Maxam came from Japan and were serviceable kitchen knives. I used a chef knife of theirs for many years. It was free for listening to a sales pitch for a " wholesale club"
