Maxam knives are beyond junk. They're dangerous junk. The only possible advantage to their pricing is the money you save buying one--so you can pay for stitches in the emergency room later, when one of their folders closes up on you.

That Maxam is a special design though. If you're behind enemy lines being hunted by bad guys, you merely chop at a couple of branches and - presto! - off goes the blade and you have a handy hollow tube you can breath through while hiding submerged in the lake.

See I knew there was some survival purpose to their design...LOL

Maxam is pure crap now I can take one of those and break the thing bare handed and not worry about being cut cause if you breath on the edge it will dull, back about 10 years ago they imported thier stuff from japan and they had some decent fixed blades I have a huge chopper that came from seki city that stays nice and sharp and has been to heck and back but now they just use 420j2 unheatreated and not made to hold up to any use whatsoever unless your opening mail. Get a mora or cold steel bushman or heck get an old hickory butcher knife or if you've got a sams card you can get 2 tramontina kitchen knives for 12.00 in either santuko or regular chefs knifes pattern that are nice solid and sharp and have really comfortable handles thats 6.00 each and they are thick enough that you could probably baton them without worry the best part is they are great camp knives cause nobody will think your trying to play rambo and people wont freak when they see a white handled chefs knife.
