Maxam Knives

Oh poop. I'll still get a Pika, but I guess it won't fill my liner lock role the first time around. I'll try to get a Spyderco Native at Walmart (if any of the ones near me carry them) next paycheck as my first good liner lock knife. The Native is a liner lock, right?

I am pretty set on the 110 being my first good lockback. I can get more later, but I want to cover a few more "genres" before getting a second or third good lockback.

I'll look into Becker. Never heard of them before now.

I would suggest holding off buying anything until you have a chance to get your mitts on different models and styles. Any gun shows in the area will probably have a knife seller with more varieties than you can shake a stick at. If you are close to a knife show it will be worth the trip if you have any interest. You can discuss knives all day with folks that make, sell, and use them. They are very friendly usually if you tell them you are a newbie just trying to get some education about knives and start a collection.

Decent gun stores also carry good knives but usually at the higher end. If you can find a decent store look at each carefully and consider how it would feel in your hand after using it for an hour of doing whatever tasks you would do. Some have sharp pointy handles that I find irritating after several minutes of use or that can't be easily used when held upside down (when cutting up on straps, etc.)

All the pictures look great no matter what the quality. Isn't the variety interesting? Decisions, decisions, decisions. Good luck!

Good idea.

I don't get paid until next Friday anyways, so I have time to go to a gun store or at least Walmart and try out *something* (I know Walmart's selection is limited and not really what you were talking about). If there is a knife or gun show before next Friday, then great.

Err... Sorry, the Native is also a lockback, but don't let this spoil your fun, still a very good knife. :D

If you want a good liner under 50 bucks, take a look at the Buck Strider 889 or the Camillus Heat.
