However it is notable that the Manix 2's and Native 5's are usually in the .030" range and not .015" (Out of the box) like the Mule.
Military and Para 2's are usually thinner in the .020" to .025" range.
I think your going to like this (for a non stainless) from what I've experienced so far with sharpmaker touch ups.I am most curious to see how this steel sharpens. I can get any steel sharp with diamonds but different steels respond differently. ZDP189, s110v, s30v, m4, hap40...all of them will sharpen fairly easily but all take slightly different edges off the same stones (some more or less aggressive, some with more or less tooth). I'm curious to see where maxamet falls in the mix.
I'd like to hear someone articulate why Maxamet would be a better choice than S110V? Variety is great and I applaude Spyderco for pushing the envelope. Just seems like the greater corrosion resistance of S110V would make it a better choice.
I think you just sold me on finally buying the S110V one I've been eyeing. It's such a big upgrade over the BD1 for not that much more $.
Just to followup on what I said. Ankerson cut almost twice as much rope with the Maxamet Mule compared with the S110V Military. But he cut about 50% more cardboard with the Military...
And this is an interesting behavior. It might lead one to S110V or to Maxamet, depending on the type of edge/cutting performance desired. I'm curious as to why they performed this way, and more detailed thoughts as to why these differences are observed. If one has more abrasion resistance I would expect it to do better on both rope and cardboard.
I'd like to hear more user feedback from the Maxamet. I have to wonder what it gives up in toughness with that high RC.
Get one and let us know what you think.
That is what the MT project is for.
Gets the steels in peoples hands in a package that keeps cost down so they can fully use the knives and get a handle on the different steels before they step into a Full blown finished product like the Manix 2.
I did my review.
Now we want to know what YOU think about it after you get one in your hands etc.
I've enjoyed the MT24 in Maxamet for a couple of weeks now. Just made my review on YouTube, and I referenced your work with the knife. Thank you for your awesome research and time. Looking forward to the new Maxamet models coming from Spyderco in the near future!
