Maxamet use

Manix 2 and Native 5 in Maxamet seem to be readily available. BladeHQ shows a Para 2 and a Para 3 out of stock, which I assume means they're coming in the future.

My experience is the same as others - the edge retention lives up to the hype. My Native has become my go-to utility knife when I have a lot of cutting to do. I tried keeping it sharp on the Sharpmaker, which is possible but will take time. I'm currently using a 1K glass stone on the Edge Pro. Going carefully and slowly, using the factory angle (guessing 20 degrees).

Given that it's more of a garage knife than a pocket knife for me, now wishing I'd gotten the Manix.

all that vanadium in maxamet, your going to need diamond's. your glass and ceramics arnt hard enough to actually sharpen the vanadium. but the steel around the vanadium will get sharp. you might get carbide tear out. may be minor but just saying.

Interesting... will go with diamond next time. Didn't even think of that. Thanks for the feedback.

I got a little carried away the other day and whittled away on a piece of 5.56 brass with mine. Nothing that most other good steels won't do, but I went at it for a good bit. Still would shave arm hair effortlessly.

Sooo, is Maxamet in any way like M4 in that if you keep on top of it in terms of stropping regularly on a diamond medium then you can maintain a pretty super working edge for the long haul? (apologies for ignorance but I'm a fixed blade user in A2/O1/CPM154 who is really intrigued by the Native 5 in Maxamet). cheers.

bear71 bear71 I don't see why you couldn't maintain maxamet with diamond stropping, but be aware these maxamet blades are probably much much harder than anything you've ever used. The ony thing I have that comes close are home made from parting tools.
