Maxpedition FatBoy (not jumbo) - help me pick a pistol?

I have a Glock 19 in my fatboy. 1 mag in the gun, 1 mag in the side pouch and 2 extra lying loose in the main compartment. Thats a total for 4 mags and 60 rounds.

How about a Sig P225/P6 in 9mm. Small enough for a good fit in the bag, big enough for a good grip, accurate and reliable.

I really like the idea of the Glock with a .22lr conversion... but how accurate are the .22lr convsersions?

Too bad Ruger never came out with a compact sized MkII or 22/45. The 22/45 is to mimick the .1911 why not make compact version...

I know you said no revolvers, but I met someone this past weekend that carries a Taurus Judge (small .410 shotshell revolver) in a Fatboy. Because it is slim, it fit fine. I know that gun has its limitations, but for hunting squirrel, rabbit, birds, etc... at close range, it seems ideal. Loaded with slugs, it also works for some larger animals.

Acutally, if I'm not mistaken you can shoot .45 Colt rounds in it too. The .410 would probably be pretty good for snakes, but birds......I don't know. Unless you can get up close and shoot them while they are on the ground. I know it will handle a three inch .410. Sounds like a neat gun.

Personally I never carried a handgun in pack. It takes too long to get to if you really need it. Better to carry it in holster, I think. But if I had to take one of the weapons you stated in pack I would take .22. Just my opinion though.

Okay, I know I 'm going a little off the specific question you asked, but although I'm a big fan of automatics (mostly 1911's) for self defense purposes, I think a revolver is the better choice for a trail/wilderness gun. My basic reasoning on this is the KISS principle. I think a revolver is more reliable and flexible than an automatic. By flexible I mean you can use a wider range of bullets for different purposes -- for example, in my Rugar .357 Blackhawk I can shoot everything from mild .38 specials for plinking to heavy .357 loads.
I gun I don't have, but would like to try out as a kit gun, is the Ruger Single Six in the .32 magnum caliber.
