Maxpedition Kodiak bag on the monkey

I like the bag - but I just can't imagine that it's that comfortable with a single shoulder strap. In fact, I like a lot of their bags but steer away from them because of the single shoulder strap.

Thanks for sharing, Joe.

I see my camp site in two of the pics. :D Well at least my tent.

I bought a Malaga and fought with the strap on it to make it fit me well, but it didn't work so I sent it back. I'm actually surprised that considering Garrett and I are both big guys that he likes the single strap and that it works well for him. I seriously worked for some time and added straps to the Malaga to try and make it fit. Granted the Malaga and it's ilk are different than the Kodiak & Sitka straps as they are on one side vs being able to switch sides with the Malaga, etc.

myright I agree with you about the single strap being comfortable, especially since you can't switch sides.

I never liked the earlier Gearslingers from Maxpedition. They all had that whole "40-year old Virgin" thing going on. My Dad was big on calling stuff "halfassed" if it was, well, halfassed! These packs always struck me as being half a backpack/ruck so they were sort of halfassed to me. I kept reading and kept thinking "daypack, what's the difference with a day pack?" Or some type of EDC special, you know what I mean? It's not meant to replace an ALICE pack or something in that vein.

I kept reading reviews on the Remora, Lunada, Malaga and Kodiak. I settled on the Malaga. I have three other good sized pouches mounted on it, a Maxped M1, a Tactical Tailor E&E Horizontal and a T.T. E&E Vertical and the Malaga with these three pouches just holds an amazing amount of stuff. You hoist it up and over and attach the secondary strap properly adjusted and I've walked quite a bit with and and up and down stairs in urban environments with very little shifting and basically no real discomfort to speak about.

I just remembered why the Malaga never worked for me. While the strap could change from one side to other, the main connection point was in the middle of the pack. There was no adjustment to it. That is the main problem with the Malaga. If they had made it so that there was a connection point on the left & the right on the top of the pack it would have worked for me.

I love the idea of the Gearslingers, I had a Monsoon a few years back. But on hikes I'd get huffing and puffing and the strap going across my chest would restrict my breathing. I ended up selling it, since breathing is one of my favorite things to do :) But I do like the idea behind them.

The Malaga works just fine for me! The center attachment point just means the bag rides at an angle across your back. Mine is balanced out by a bottle holder on one side. :)
