Maxpedition Monsoon Gearslinger Opinions

Maxpedition makes awesome gear. I have many Maxpedition products, including a couple of the "gearslinger" series. They are great for around town, by the single strap systems is not adequate for hiking/backpacking. the single strap system is nice because you can rotate it around ad access the storage compartments without taking the pack off, but it doesn't support a lot of weight. Get a traditional backpack for that task, and Maxpedition does make traditional double strap backpacks.

^What he said, I like my Sitka but when I took it on a hike I wanted to chug it because it was killing my shoulder.

I like the gearslinger series for work and have had the Monsoon several times. They hold up great, but are not great on comfort after extended carry. 2 strap designs are much better in my estimation, especially hiking.

I only have experience with their "versipack" line of bags. I have a Thermite model and I love it. It has the added benefit of being able to use it with a leg strap. Build quality and materials are excellent.

Monsoon is my BOB, I keep it loaded down and in the trunk of the car. Its a great gear holder for urban settings imo, low profile and everything is easy to get to for a lefty if you set it up that way. But I do not like this as a hiking pack, not enough support, and carrying a gussied up purse over the shoulder in the mountains gets to be taxing on whichever single shoulder is taking the abuse. I love my Kelty Redwing 2100 for dayhiking and camping.

Hope that helps.

I use a Malaga on day-hikes and it's quite comfortable as long as I don't over fill the pack. Once the pack is full I stop...no attaching a bunch of junk to the outside except maybe a jacket or other light weight items. The Monsoon is much larger so I don't think it would be for me.

I use a mega-tricked-out Malaga as my woodsbumming pack, but agree that you have to be mindful of weight, weight distribution, and adjust the shoulder strap properly! a little bit of sag in the strap will make your hike miserable, so cinch it down good!
