Looking to but a Jumbo Versipack to replace a messenger bag I carry in my car as my "Get Home Bag". The reviews I have read are pretty positive, but a small percent just rip the quality and construction.

Are they still a quality bag?

I only have two, an old M-1 bag and a new Proteus Versipack. The M-1 is a couple of years old and is in as good a shape as my new Versipack. These ride in my car and then get carried on hikes, so they do get out some.

I've only heard good things about Maxp gear and that's been my limited experience as well.

Screwdriver, I've got 2 of their backpacks, numerous pouches (10-15), 2 of their attaches', and 3 of the single-shoulder type bags. I have never had one problem with any of these, & some of them have been put thru absolute torture. I just received a Vulture-II backpack yesterday to make a camping bag for my son, & have not even taken the tags off.
I don't think you could go wrong with any of their products.
Good luck with your search.
Be safe.

As far as negative reviews go I think some folks are put off because they are made in Taiwan.

I've been carrying a Maxpedition Jumbo for about a year now, and had no problems at all with the quality. It has held up better than I expected it to. They are built to very high standards with high quality materials. I'm sure there are mistakes that are occasionally made during manufacturing, or some that slip through QC inspection that are sub-par, but I'd wager that they are very far and few between. Just my experience. -Matt-

I know someone who saw that and got rid of all of his Maxped gear. He thought it was the best stuff since sliced bread, then he learned it was made in Taiwan. It was instant crap.

I have their M-1, M-2 and Frag pouches. All are well made and have held up really well. Shoot, the M-2 and frag pouch don't even look used even after a year of camping use. I sometimes carry the M-1 on my belt when I head to the city so it's a little soiled but thats it. IMO they make good stuff!!

Maxpedition quality is the best in the business. Not to say that BLACKHAWK or 5.11 isn't good but Iam partial to Maxpedition. They are just well made and beyond any of my expectations(which are very high), I have not used a jumbo versi but I have used the regualr size versipack. Good choice!

I want to get a jumbo or proteus. Haven't made up my mind yet.

Been using my maxped jumbo versipack for about 2 years, mostly for day hikes.
No complains....almost looks new.

If you care about durability above weight, I'd go with the 1050-Denier water and abrasion resistant ballistic nylon fabric, not 800-denier nylon fabric.

Thanks to all the replies here I bought a Khaki Jumbo Versipack today....the 1050-Denier one.

Thanks again for all the replies.

My only experience is with my Monsoon Gearslinger, which I've had for about 8 months. So far I have no complaints about the quality of materials or construction. There are a few design features that I would change if given the chance, but they're very minor and have no impact on durability or the overall usefulness of the pack. I definitely plan to buy at least one or two more of their bags, and probably some smaller pouches as well at some point.

I have tested several of their bags--

TOP NOTCH all the way!!!!

If you need a tougher bag/pack--I'd like to know what you need it for

They are that TOUGH!!!

My Pygmy Falcon was falling apart in less than a year of very light use.
I've lightly used a Versipack and some of their pouches, and they were ok.

With companies like ArcTeryx, Mystery Ranch, Kifaru, SOE Gear, Eagle Industries, Camelbak, and(especially since we went into Afghanistan and back to Iraq) a host of other manufacturers big and small cranking out tactical gear, Maxpedition may have the best selection, but their quality isn't anything special, or even close to some of those brands.

I have a monsoon, malaga, fatboy and falcon II. I have never had a single problem, and I have been carrying my Falcon II for over a year to work every day with no signs of wear.

I have a fatboy versipack, and a monsoon gearslinger. Have had good luck with both. Only problem I have had is a zipper issue. For the price, I believe Maxpedition to be a good value, and decent gear. If you want bombproof, tough as nails, etc., my suggestion would be Mystery Ranch or Kifaru, but you will pay a whole lot more for either one of those. I have a Navigator and Scout from Kifaru and can't say enough good things about them.
