Maxpedition Warranty

Apparently there are 2 kinds of Maxpedition, Maxpedition and Magforce. Supposedly the Magforce is made 'in Asia' and is lower in price and quality. I see it all the time on the auctions here, they look exactly the same as the 'regular' models.

Agreed, if they had just said, send it in and we will replace it they would have saved themselves a lot of bad press. Still, look at how crappy Gerber stuff is now and according to a guy I was speaking to at SHOT in Feb said that Gerber was doing heaps of business, maybe Maxpedition just dont care and its the bean counters that are steering the ship.

Ok, from wad I can see, I think that Magforce has the same quality as Maxpedition. Although there is only one shop in my country that sells those stuff, the stuff there claim that the products are qorth their money, and the price is the same as those of the Magexpedition.

At least I would hope so.

I would LOVE it if companies started realizing that the ultra-wide distribution, archival nature, and speed of communication on the 'Net not only helps them sell more, but also slams them down when their poor practices get out there.

In the case that word of mouth actually gets around, companies would no longer be able to benefit from their traditional arbitrage of customer service... excellent service to media professionals and crap service to Joe Schmoe.

On the other hand, it forces them to staff someone monitoring their "net reputation".

Flashlight companies do. I called Product Wizard to complain about a shipment taking a long time. They informed me the shipment had been returned, they had the zip wrong. Never called me to inform me, and get the new zip. I told them I was going to blog their butts on the forums, and they immediately remedied the situation and sent me some extra batteries. Cool guys over there I think. JMHO.

When you read about the company on their site, it appears that the gear is made here in the states, but I'm getting the impression from other's posts that it is made out of country, so their employees are white collar and warehouse? So...............does that mean that they are intentionally misleading potential buyers? Or, does their site actually say that they are made overseas and I just missed it?

Their products are made overseas. They are the importer. To their credit they did offer to sell me one at 40% off retail which would've still been what I paid for the original.

I still like the overall designs of their products. I think their products have the look and are probably better constructed than some. However, I'd have second thoughts about purchasing their products for duty use, such as a police officer or soldier. As for me, I'll probably just pay a little more and stick with a company that truly backs their warranty, such as Eagle.

On another note, even though I agree with you that Gerbers quality has went down in the last couple of years, their warranty department and customer service are top-notch!! I sent a Gerber 600 multi-tool to them that I'd broke the scissors on, they not only sent me a spankin' new pair, but also sent me a new belt pouch and a hat! I had another good experience with Leatherman also. I may give the impression that I'm hard on stuff but the simple fact is I use what I buy and I won't hesitate to send something back to a manufacturer if it fails within the first year or two of purchase due to simple everyday use and carry.

I can't really say about their custormer service. I bought a Proteus Versipak through the mail a couple of years ago. When it came it was already coming unstiched from the waistband. $5 and 10 minutes at the local shoe shop and I was on my way.

Not exactly a great first impression though.

I've a Falcon II in my hand as I type; I've one of their double mag pouches on one side... The tag on the pouch says "American Design/Made in Taiwan."
The tag on the minirolypoly says the same thing... Can't find a tag on the bag itself... So, Maxpedition products, or at least their accessories, aren't made in America... just "designed" there...

I just ordered a Typhoon, I couldn't find anything like it anywhere else. I did buy it from TADGEAR, who IS reputable, but I believe(not positive) they are just selling what is left in stock. I have read many disreputable posts regarding Maxpedition on other forums, regarding many things, including warranty. Maxped has not made any attempt, to my knowledge, to defend themselves. I do know, that many people, whose opinions I trust, are cutting the tags off the Maxped gear they do own. This is in response to something the owner of Maxpedition has done, considered unethical by many outdoor ethusiasts on these other forums. I'm sorry to be so vague and I don't have many of the facts. I'm not a gossip monger, but a possible warning is better than none. I just hope to never need a warranty, and research a little better before my next purchase.
