Looking into a new bag/pack for woods walking, Hiking and overnight stays. I guess you could say my BOB also. I hear very good things about maxpedition products on the forum. Does anyone use their Pygmy 2 backpack. I am torn between the Pygmy or the Devildog butt pack.

If anyone here uses either please chime in. I am looking for the reason that made you pick one over the other. In other words if you use a butt pack please try to explain the advantages the way you see it, over a backpack. I am leaning towards the butt pack. Just want to make the right decision.

I have to say one of the best parts about these forums is the open exchange of real life experiences. Thanks in advance gentlemen.

There good stuff. Look around though, you may be able to find a military grade CamelBak for less.

devil dog is no longer available or so I was told ? I am looking at finding a devildog great pack....

I have the place Texas. They have them in stock, cheap. PM me and I will give you the info.

To be safe you should probably buy all of them.... Seriously, I have a Jumbo Versipack and a Devil Dog (the Devil Dog can still be found) and like both very much. I use the Devil Dog as a shoulder pack and I did change out the strap for a wider one. I am thinking about picking up a Remora sometime too....

I don't use my Maxpeditions much unless hunting, bur have enjoyed the Falcon 2, Jumbo Versipack and the proteus versipack (Of course I don't wear these at the same time :) )

I also use the Maxpedition Tactille Small for a ditty bag on some 550 cord. It works well for holding the smaller stuff.

The Devildog is discontinued but is still available at a few places. I just got one about 2 weeks ago (from 1sks) but haven't had a chance to carry it for real yet. First impressions are good though, it is a nice intermediate size between the Proteus (which I use just about every day) and the Typhoon, which will be tested as a hunting pack very soon.

I like butt packs (the DD is more like a lumbar pack imo) on light days when a backpack is overkill. They are also easy to get into w/o taking them off, just spin them around your waist to get something. Sometimes I'll wear them backwards for easy access when wade fishing the creeks. Heavier loads though, a backpack is they way to go. For overnighters, I think the Pygmy has the edge because it can handle the tent/tarp/blanket load better. Day trips, the DD would be fine I think.

The Devil Dog is on clearance at LA Police Gear.com. Don't know how many they have but the price was good so they will probely go fast.

I have a Condor II, as well as a Versipack and a couple of their smaller pouches.

The Condor is my latest purchase but I'm pretty annoyed as one of the zippers on the main compartment is not working properly after less than 6 months. Not so great when you consider their slogan and marketing hype.

Not only that, but they want me to pay for the shipping both ways to have the bag repaired. I'm overseas so this is pretty steep. I would think they could pick up one way at least. Just a heads-up before you drop your cash.

I would also consider Tactical Tailor and Camelbak. Only hear good things about them.

I carry the Jumbo Versipack everyday for school and work. I love its function and quality. It's amazing how much I can cram into it when needed. I'm also looking at the Pygmy II for a small daypack.

I have the Pigmy Falcon II which works great for carrying my essentials for work(ex uniform, lite gear, etc). Thanks James61 for the heads up at LAPoliceGear. Just ordered a DD. The wife's gonna be POed though. Oh well.
