I've been looking around for a Maxpedition Condor II backpack for hiking and hunting, and keep running into these Maxpedition clones (this is of the Falcon):

They are less than half the price ($45 shipped), how is their quality? Also, are there any bags out there like the Maxpedition Condor II that I should check out?

You're giving up something for the price.
On the knockoffs, it's usually durability. They work fine, just as well as the Maxpedition, but won't hold together as long.

Kind of a buy-once, cry-once thing, IMO.

at a local surplus store without realizing it was a Max knock-off. Held up just fine. After a year of EDC it looks none the worse for wear. One of the side pocket zippers is a little iffy but still hasn't broken. Somebody just posted about picking up the same bag from CTD for $12. If it's going to sit in the trunk of a car 95% of the time you might as well save some money. If it's going to be an EDC get the best you can comfortably afford. And if, like me, that means you have to settle for a cheaper bag I wouldn't worry about it too much. Unless you're a hard core action junkie a cheaper bag will probably work just fine 99% of the time. If you're a suburbanite/ casual dayhiker, you'll get tired of the bag before it wears out, anyway.

I think I may splurge and try and trade a knife for a real Maxpedition Condor II. I like the Falcon clones, but that style is just a little off for me. I plan on using it for weekend hikes and for bringing crap up to the hunting cabin and out into the woods.

I think I'll try and trade a knife for one before I go out and buy one.

I have a knock off and im very happy with it. I use it for hiking and geocaching every weekend. It holds fine with no problems what so ever. If it would break or tear down in 10-12 years from now i think i got more then my money worth. Besides this way it would be a good reason to look at a new pack. I have my for about 2 years now besides being very dirty it shows almost no wear and tear. I expect my to last long time. If anything i would want a new one just cause i would get tired of having the same pack for too many years.

I bought one before I found out about maxpediton and it has held up ok. After hiking several miles with a 60lb load it started to rip out the sides and both strap brackets broke. It looks just like the one in the picture.

Wow, I'd think that 20-25, maybe 30# might carry well, but 60# seems like a lot of weight for that pack.

Local surplus store. I think the pack may have been overloaded longbow50 but regerdless it held up pretty good for its price but not as well as I would have hoped.
