If you're not familiar with the DDR lineup... Yes.
Each person gets their pick of opening mechanism when they place the order for the special run HTM Gunhammer; that's why we didn't do a poll on it.I was being facetious...I was hoping it was another poll regarding the special run GH2.
Thanks for the quick reply! This is a interesting choice. I have owned many knives over the years...many, but for some reason I am having a hard time time deciding which way to go on this one.I'd say it's mostly personal preference. You can't go wrong with either. The Maxx Glide opens fast despite not being assisted. Bearings really do a lot for speed of deployment. I only have one knife with bearings, but you can tell the difference in speed and also smoothness. I used to own a ZT 0350 in the past and really liked the assisted mechanism, but still prefer manual.
Now that IS interesting. Kinda like the sound of that, actually. Impressive sounding. Being honest, this Gun Hammer will probably spend most of its life in the safe, with some EDC. Only a few will get to play with it.It's not just about opening though. I chose Maxx Glide, and prefer unassisted to assisted where possible, because assisted knives are harder to close. Also, one of the 'problems' I've had with Gun Hammers is that they kick so hard that, for the uninitiated, they often kick right out of your hand. Which is cool, but dangerous if someone's borrowing your knife. The M390 one isn't quite as bad, but both of the others have taken numerous tumbles to the ground since they jump right out of people's hands. I've had to start warning people to hang on really tightly to the knives.
Same here, at least when it comes to the HTM Gunhammers. Those can sometimes be a b*tch to close one-handed, both because of the strength of the spring and (especially, at least IMHO) because you have to overcome the tension of the spring for the entire 180° that the blade has to travel from the open to closed position. It's not just about opening though. I chose Maxx Glide, and prefer unassisted to assisted where possible, because assisted knives are harder to close.
No, only the unassisted version has Maxx Glide bearings. Bearings would be redundant on an assisted opener such as the spring assisted HTM Gunhammer, which as some of the other replies have attested, flies open just fine with standard phosphor bronze washers rather than bearings at the pivot. If any knife maker/company ever feels the need to put bearings on an assisted opener, they should fire the guy who designed their assisted opening mechanism.Hi,
Does this mean that the AO option we have now has Maxx Glide Bearings?

Thanks for the clarification.
The sentence " I was just informed that HTM Max GLIDE assisted Gunhammers are shipping to dealers as we speak." caught my attention in the post from above.
Best...
Thanks again for the help!Oh that's my mistake. I must've been hasty typing that. I copied part of an email response into the body of the reply I had written. Darrel is pretty quick in responding and doesn't proof read I find. There should have been a comma between Max Glide assisted, though in my case, I would have put an "and.". I did mention in several other responses though that ball bearings on an assisted mechanism are redundant. There just isn't a point. It's overkill. Although, I'm guessing if you wanted a custom version with ball bearings and an assist, he'd probably make it for you. But, the smoothness of the bearings would be lost with the bar/coil spring assisted mechanism. You would never notice it. It just makes no sense to me, but since when did everything have to make sense? If someone wanted to pay, I'm guessing Darrel will be glad to put both together on a custom build. Key word is custom.
Now I need to find that reply and edit it. Thanks for pointing that out to me.
