Maxx vs. Manix

It's curious that CA has some harsh gun laws, but we can carry a folder of any size.

Of the three I posted I think the SOG is the best work knife. I like that the Arc-Lock is easy to use to open and close the knife with one hand. The Benchmade is the nicest of the bunch and the fit of the frame lock is perfect compared to the CUDA which locks up with a little wiggle present in the blade.

As a resident of Maryland (where a handgun permit is virtually impossible to obtain) the law concerning folding knives are somewhat liberal. There is no limit on the length of the folding blade as long as one is not carrying it as a weapon.

Thats where the SHTF if you happen to be defending yourself with it - then you are using it as a weapon. I would still take my chances if I had to defend myself if all other means fail (including running away.)

Possibility that the police might not even charge you if he thought you were simply defending your life (and the original intent was not to use it as a weapon.)

It's your own responsibility to check whether it's legal in your jurisdiction. I can legally carry it in Germany (except for "public events" like demonstrations and such).

The Cuda Maxx he's looking at has a 5.5" or 7" blade (depending on which model he wants to get)...the Vaquero Grande's is 6" long, so I don't really know why you single the Vaq. Grande out.

i'm not singling out the vaq. grande. i posted earlier on the legality of the maxx as well.

look into local laws.

i love my maxx. but it's illegal to EDC here, so i carry a bm710 instead.

also, note that the price on the maxx has gone up recently. when i got my 5.5 stiletto it was $130.

Ditto on checking the legality - 5.5" is pretty darned long. I have the Maxx, and it is legal to carry in Oregon. Makes for a surprisingly slim and comfortable carry.

From the looks of the Mannix, it would be a more versatile knife, but overall a shorter package.

Another to consider is the Lonewolf Harsey folders, they are verybig.

Here in Pa.last I heard 4 inch blade was it.I have a MAXX also, stilletto. No experience with Manix's but I can tell ya',I've carried larger than legal blade lengths for as long as I've been around here.Even been searched, illegal knife was opened by officer, closed and returned. No problem.Back to the point, the few times I carried the MAXX I was extremely paranoid for some reason.Haven't carried it since then.Good reason to EDC it tomorrow,I mean today.IMO,MAXX has great edge retention.

Temper, thanks for the tip on the Lonewolf knives. Great steel, nice big blade, nice design. Does it use a liner lock? Do you own one and if so what are your impressions?
