I found a decent equivalent at WalMart. It is called Fatwood Starterstix. Got 20 or so sticks for a couple bucks on sale. Shouldn't be hard to find.

Kmart and Target both sell a fatwood firestarter product, sticks of pine, filled with resin, in a 2 lb carton. So does Lowe's.

This stuff is called various names, fatwood, pitchwood, mayawood (a trade name), lighter pine.

If you do a web search for those names, you should be able to find a number of dealers, if your local stores don't have it.

Of course, given a search of the forest near you, you may find a pine tree with wood especially filled with pitch due to death from calamity, you have found the real thing. Along that vein, there is a tree near my place, in a guys yard, they trimmed this tree to death, but left about 20 feet of it standing. The roots continued to send pitch, and now the tree is a juge piece of fatwood. I lust after it every time I pass.
