Maybe here also

I also passed on both of those as well as I have big choppers and it would have just been added to the pile and simply un-needed. Need often doesn't have much to do with it with knives, but I hesitate to get a big pile of choppers just to have them as I have no interest in collecting knives. But they do pile up. Honestly, choppers are fun and I was instantly attracted to those two big blades, but I use them so seldomly that it didn't make sense for me regardless of pricing.

In terms of Kabar making them long term, it is all about sales and continued sales. I suspect they are looking at that with the BK-62 as the initial buying surge is past. The BK-15 is one of my favorite Beckers for using and it was discontinued.

The BK-62 was precisely the Kephart that I was looking for in 2018 and I was thrilled that they are making it. I have since bought a couple handmade ones. so, I like the size and the pattern.

This is my point. Ka-bar could not sell them. Wish they could have because i would have liked one bit life goes on. I still have my Marine Raider and soon a Jarosz Chopper, a chopper they trust to sell.
The Jarosz Chopper is more similar in size to the BK9, not the 20 or 29.

I don't collect knives i use them. I aint paying 260 bucks for a $90 knife. Making a limmited number and have people fight over them to make you feel like your a knife God is not cool. If your a good knife designer then back up your design by putting it into production so those that need it can use it.

That's the wrong attitude up in this forum buddy, this is the Becker forum. The 20 and 29 have been discontinued for quite some time now. You gotta pay to play. I wish I could have purchased a 1970 Chevelle, but not really gonna bitch about today's prices if I really want one.

I love the Beckers, but I'm not concerned about having a limited run or discontinued knife. Im just gonna collect what I can afford...which are the majority of the Beckers out today.

Guess in today's world of instant gratification people think what they want ... when they want it ... and it should be done ... that's just not how the world works ...

And yes you definitely made a poor decision to come in the Becker forum to bad mouth Ethan or the company ...

You won't find better people nor a knife company that tries to make sure customers are happy ...

I didn't get in on a couple knives before they were discontinued ... but I knew I wanted them ... and knew I'd have to pay a premium to get them ...

And Beckers are made to be used ... at any price ... if $240 is beyond your comfort level for a knife you would use there are several other brands you could buy for less ... but if they aren't up to the quailty of a Becker ... just remember that was your choice ... good luck.

And maybe try being polite asking questions next time ... the good folks that frequent this sub forum have been known to be exceptionally helpful and generous.

You nailed it. Instant gratification. I want it and I want it NOW! What ever happened to the effort put forth in achieving what you want?

Yikes! I am not sure a whole lot of sympathy is to be found here...

Beckerheads are knife nuts and we understand the game just as well as most. Limited runs and discontinued models, love them or hate them, will always drive up the prices on the secondary market. That is just the way of things. If you want one bad enough, you will pay the premium that they fetch or you will be patient and wait for that "right place/right time" moment (yes, they do happen).

But, coming on here, griping about the designer (especially one as beloved as Ethan), and thrashing a great production company isn't going to win you any favors.

I paid higher than retail for my BK-20 but it had also undergone the masterful improvements by Jonny (i.e. sandblasting and Micarta scales). It is an excellent chopper and is one of the Beckers I own that I will never get rid of. You might think of it as just a $90 knife, I view it as a tool that will last me a lifetime.

And yes, it gets used, it is one of my primary firewood tools. I just gave it an oil bath and steel wool scrubbing.

Good looking used blade !

I have the 29...but really the BK9 is my "go to" knife. I love Bowie style blades and the 20 and 29 appealed to that love. After I reprofiled my BK9 into a bowie, I realized that was what I was really looking for. Honestly, I will probably let the 29 move on someday to someone who would use it more than I do.

Never had a chance to handle the BK20...maybe someday.

I considered a 21 ... I am also considering another 9 lol ... but I need to work out all my choppers and get rid of those that don't make to cut (no pun intended) ...

But ya can't have too many 9s ... or 5s ... or 15s ... *shrug*
