Well, the Mayo/Buck knife has been with me for almost a week now, and I am loving it. This thing slices! It is very sharp and very high quality for a relatively low price compared to other knives in the same category that this one is in: that of being in between production and custom.

The idea that I have is that as much as I love my new knife and will continue to carry it, I would love some variation. So is there any way that we could get Kershaw to do the same kind of thing with one of the Ken Onion knives? My vote would be either the Vapor or the Vapor2. Love the design, and I think it just begs for better materials.

The one thing that makes a big difference in this knife's edge holding is the Paul Bos heat treat and temper at 59.5-60. I have one of these also and have put a razor edge on it and used it pretty extensively to see how it will hold an edge and it does a fantastic job. A friend of mine who owns a Sebenza has handled the Buck/Mayo of mine quite a bit and did some comparing on edge holding, says that he is going to order him one and replace the Sebbie with it, because of the edge it will take and the way it holds an edge. I am very impressed and satisfied with this knife. I will not carry a knife by using a clip, but if I did, the clip is the only criticism that I have. The clip could use a little more bend on the end so it would go over a pocket easier. The S30V is not hard to sharpen using diamond stones. Tom Mayo, Buck, and Paul Bos have a real winner in the 172 IMHO.
