I just saw the Mayo Cutback for $12.88 at BassPro.com, that is less than half the price of anywhere else on the web.

The local Bass Pro Retail outlet has had the Cutbacks priced at 12.88 since at least Thanksgiving. That's when I bought mine.

I've been carrying mine daily since I've bought it and think it's a great deal for the price.

I have to admit I'm not real familiar with this knife. Could someone post a pic, perhaps next to a 110??

Got this one on line a little while back for $15.49 delivered. A nice little knife.

Sorry, I guess it would help. :o

From the top:
882 Tarani
889LE Custom Ironwood
174 Buck/Mayo Cutback (The knife in question)
110 w/Jigged Water Buffalo

I'll add that it's size is closer to a 112 than a 110.

Welcome to the Forum Prez!!!! Warning,,,could be addicting here!!!:D

I bought my 174 Cutback at wally right after they came out and paid right at $27 for it. Was out in Abilene and got stuck needing a sharp blade. Good as excuse as any to buy a new one.

I edc it on and off untill I picked up its larger brother the 179 Hilo, which fits my hand a little better and one hand opens a little easier for me.

I now daily edc the 179. Clips right into my back pocket real nice. Sharpens up real easy! Both are fine users!!

The TNT we were talking about in the other thread is their fancier brother the, Titanium handeled S30V bladed model 172..... hiding in its little black case wrapped in a foam diaper tucked in the big toy box.... what a waste...:o

Check out Bucks website for those knives...

....

That's funny!!!! (and true)

BUT, Larry, the upside of that is that the box won't get smashed in the mail when the PO doesn't have any of those Priority Mail cardboard shippers around :o

I found that I was also guilty of that Pack.....then I decided to let those puppies breathe.

I picked up a couple of stands, designated one shelf in my bookcase in my office as a junk-free-zone, and now I can just display some of my hiders.

I just rotate them as the mood hits me.

I was thinking about putting some plexi over the front of the shelf opening but I like displaying them out where they're handy and I can reach over a fondle them when I need a fix. :D

When did Buck switch the economy Mayo series from 440C to 420HC? I think it was a wise move!

I had an early Hilo and as I reported here then, I was very disappointed in its performance and ability to take and keep a very sharp edge. Now that I've learned more about 440C, I understand its limitations better.

Because of that, I think 420HC (and 440A) is (are) better than 440C for a knife.

Cracks me up,,,ya gotta quit obsessing over that gooser...lol... Besides, that box now has character!!! :D
But,,,dona goa smashing anny more....:D

I gather that is the shelf in the pic...

I have a shelf I want to do that too also, but right now it is full of the duplicate pewter sculptures I had to buy to to fill in pieces I was missing. Hummm....maybe I can start trading pewter for knives....lol... But meanwhile they hide in the drawer next to me or downstairs in the toy box.

As an added note, Bass Pro retail store in Michigan has had the Buck Pilot priced at 14.88 which also seems like a pretty good deal.

I think I might purchase the Cutback from the site just because it is so low priced (it seems like a decent knife at an irresistable value, just what I'm looking for in an EDC).

It seems that on the site the blade length is listed as 2.5 inches (a little short for me), but on other sites they're listed as 3.25 inches.

Are there different versions? And can someone who purchased it from this site please confirm the blade length? Thanks!

There are 2 versions.

The cutback is the smaller one. The Hilo has a longer blade and a tad longer handle.
I had both and preferred the Hilo, but that was just me!
Very sturdy knives.
Good luck!

Ah I see. Thank you very much. I think I might go for the Hilo then (perfect size for me) if I can find a good deal. Thanks.

On Bucks website, the blade for the Cutback is listed as 3.25 inches:

I'm not really sure right now, but I think the site is selling a 2.5 inch Cutback (or it could be 3.25, just a typo?) and Hilo is listed at 3 5/8 inches:
