Well maybe not excactly priceless but - boy - have prices gone through the roof in the aftermarket.

Latest example is a TnT on Ebay that has a starting bid price of $1.5 grand.

Tom, you better install a good security system in your shop as its contents now officially have exceeded those of the Bank of England.

Both of the guys selling those Mayos are members of this forum if I am not mistaken. As popular as the TnT is, I think that they are going to have trouble getting two to three times the original selling price for these knives. All the best to them though. If they can get that kind of money for a second hand TnT then it may just be a signal to Tom that it is time to raise his prices. That would not be good for the people hoping to get a knife from him in the future, but it would be good for Tom.

Ditto...

That takes TnTs out of my price range. Too bad for me I guess. I had a feeling this was going to happen when Tom announced that he was no longer going to take orders.

Caught you doing what? Selling your knife? It is your knife to do with as you wish. $1500 seems to high to me, but that doesn't mean much, because I have no idea what this knife is capable of selling for. I was surprised by Ira's post about a TnT selling for $1200. Your price is not that far off.

Like anything else, it's worth whatever the market will bear. One lucky person sells at the top of the market, and ofcourse, someone buys at the top of the market too.

The TNT that sold for $1200 [or close to it] was posted here. With Vegas right around the corner it may be difficult to get $1200 or more for a TNT.

But $800 to $1,000 will get you alot of buyers who do not want to wait for Tom to start taking orders again, and Damn his knives are awesome..............

If I had the money........................

The bottom line is I love a good knife, but I don't want to be afraid to use it.

I know what you're talking about. I have only been cutting open cellophane packages of crackers with mine. Otherwise, it's sitting in my pocket, protected with a leather pouch.

It is an unusual situation to be in - carrying a beautiful, wonderfully functional knife and then having second thoughts about cutting something - or worse, handing it over to someone else to cut something.

My other enjoyment is to practice flicking it open and closing it - the action is so damned nice and addictive.

Priceless to me is the perfect cast to a rising native brookie with a 7' Payne rod, or sliding an XKE around a country road in the Fall -- or maybe peeling an apple for your kid or cutting the tags off a little black dress for your wife -- with a TNT. Stuff is a lot more fun if you use it for its intended purpose

I was lucky enough to get my order for one in last year, and am expecting it should be done sometime soon. I won't be afraid to carry and use it, but if I paid much more I think I would. I agree, I would hate to have a knife that begs to be used and be afraid to use it. I would never spend that kind of money on one knife.........yet;)

Really though, I put the knife up for auction because it got too expensive for me to use.

I carried a Gerber Paul knife from 1982 to 1995. Put it away and carried a Buck Protege instead, because I found out that the replacement value for a Gerber Paul was a couple of hundred bucks and the knife that I carried for better than a dozen years was now too expensive to use. It was part of a mentality I grew up with, that you don't use good things, you save them (although I'm not sure what you save them for, if you're never going to use them  ).

Right now, I sitting with a Mayo TNT in my pocket. It gets used for just about everything and anything; it's even been sharpened. Needless to say, my thinking has changed over the last few years. Some things, including knives, may be too expensive to buy, but if you can afford the price, they're not too expensive to use. The whole point to buying nice things is so that you can enjoy them.

Are TnT's worth 1K and up? Is an Emerson, an Onion, a Ryan? Are any of them worth that much for that matter? What makes an Emerson worth more than a Carson or a Boguszewski? Is it supply and demand? craftsmanship? materials? all of the above. I guess it's whatever floats your boat or makes you feel good. Some of those things you can get for free, some cost 1 grand...go figure. I hope those guys get their $1,200 and $1,500 for their TNT's at auction. They will be happy and so will two other lucky guys! I don't really think that Tom will give a rat's ass what owners sell his TNT's for. He's seems to me to be a very talented and grounded guy with no super ego to feed.

One of the very many good things about a Mayo TNT (and a lot of other custom knives) is that if you do use it and scratch it up and dull it, Tom (and other makers) will bring it back to tip-top shape for usually a minimal charge.:)

I recently sent Tom my "xxlg Beefy TNT", and he re-bead blasted it and re-sharpened it. Looks good as new. I say use 'em and show 'em off. Life is just to friggin short! Just be careful not to lose 'em. That would be a bad thing!

Use those knives folks, for the sheer pleasure of knowing you're using the best. If you bought a Rolls Royce you wouldnt keep it undriven because it cost too much, would you? Besides, most of the good makers will clean a knife up for you after you use it for awhile, for just the cost of postage.

Nowadays there's 2 knives always with me, a jig bone Carson mdium model 4 in my front pocket that I use nightly at work, and the only stag handled Emerson CQC6 in existence rides on my belt in a sheath.
Sure I have knives that only sit in the safe but why not pick one or two of your good ones and use them? You deserve it.

The first expensive(to me) knife I carried and used was a Terzuola ATCF. That knife cost me $450 at the time, I carried it everyday for about 3 years. That works out to about .40 cents a day to carry and use a great knife.

I'm hoping to pick a TNT from Tom at the Las Vegas Classic. It will have a Timascus handle. I saw one at Blade Show West and it is awesome! You can bet that I wouldn't take $2,000.00 for this knife. But you know that value is subjective. To me it is priceless.:D  ;) :p
