I think he's contrasting to the Sebenza's price (I hope!).
But it looks like I lucked out a little (Unfortunately, not in the Buck/Mayo area). I've been dying to play with some sebenzas, aliases, etc etc, (the competition) that I also really like, but never got a chance. But I just learned of a new (to me) high end knife store, and I checked and they've got all that, plus more than reasonable pricing. So hopefully today I'm going to be able to check out the Mayo competition. Jeez, I wish finances were doing better this time of year.
As per bead blasts scratching easier, it's just been my experience with my bead blasted titanium knife versus my other two. I notice this with beadblasted knives in general though, like my spyderfly. I tossed it in my back to take it from my house to my apartment, and when I got back, there were lots of shiny scratches in it (you had to get the light just right to see though). I mean, really, when we say scratches, we're sort of talking about small areas of being polished. Shiny parts over the overall dull surface. (You can only see the shine of the scratches on my bead blasted knives). Conversely, my stainless steel or polished/anodized titanium knives just don't scratch at all ever. Surely they would if I dropped them, but my pocket appears to have no effect at all.
My titanium fears are deep. As a 10 year old kid (roughly?) I saved up a ton of money (for me at the time) to buy a titanium 560C, and when I started seeing scratches on the handle it just drove me insane.
