MBA Student Survey About Knife Sharpeners

Hey Everyone!

I'm a second-year MBA student from the University at Buffalo. I am in a consumer behavior course and I was given a project involving knife sharpeners. Would it be okay to distribute a survey on this forum? I don't want to violate the rules. This is only for educational purposes and asks more about buyer habits, which aspects of a knife sharpener you value over others, and does not have any company I'm trying to promote.

Thoughts?

Sounds cool. I'm in. How about Survey monkey? We used that when I was an MBA student.

Was it the demographic gender question? Anything you have an issue with I can modify for future users so I'd appreciate feedback. Or was it the question about accessories? Feel free to send a private message if you prefer!

Done. You need to survey elsewhere to get a good random sample of users of the types of electric sharpeners mentioned in the survey. This forum is not representative of the bulk of users of those devices. Good luck

I just found it funny, " can you identify your gender " I thought about it a second. Almost positive I got it right. ( joke)
What do you hope to learn from this survey?

Did it. Some feedback on your project and results:
- careful with extrapolating responses to broad market. Folks on this forum are very much in the long tail...
- your income category question seems way off - high of 60k is barely above US HH average
- not sure on nature of your project, but may want to consider segmenting in different ways than your first question will capture - for instance, there may be a market in ultra-premium hobbyists, or sharpening services...

Good luck

Thank you! I think you're right about skewing data - do you have any suggestions on where else I should search? I've gone to a few kitchen knife forums too. I'd appreciate any guidance. You've all been very helpful!

Did it up, and as Bob Leedy said, it would be a good idea to get more non-knife people to fill it out. We unfortunately are not the majority, and good luck with your research.

Thank you so much for your advice! I'm starting to realize I might have to make new versions of this survey when I understand more about this. I did adjust the income categories in the demographic question area.

I took the survey and found it interesting. I am sure if only surveying from this group you are going to get higher end answers. I also found it funny that the income question stopped at 80-90K. I guess you assume Knife people do not make 100K a year plus. I sure as heck don't but I have a lot of buyers who make well over the top of your yearly income range. Good luck in your class!

the question "would you be more likely to buy a sharpener made in america?" is very subjective, and may not just be a yes or no answer.

If given the choice between two products that are otherwise the same, and fairly similar in price, then maybe yes. If the american made product is inferior, and there are no comparable products to the foreign offerings, then maybe no.

Also, it seems a bit redundant after the previous question of "how important is country of production?"
