I've seen a quite a few videos over the past week, while on vacation, where a Spyderco pops up. These aren't marketed as "MCB" but there they are... The same happens in real life... I understand Sal's desire to promote a good image but it doesn't take a genius to figure out a knife is a good tool and a good weapon. Same with a screwdriver if need be... A shoe is a "deadly weapon" if it is used to kick someone in the head.
Bottom line: there is not much to keep a delica from falling into the wrong hands, never mind a "MCB", or shoes on the wrong feet for that matter.
On one hand, I don't care for Cold Steel's in your face marketing about their wares. But, I also find myself respecting the fact that they willing to acknowledge if not push the weapon potential of their blades. I think it needs to be dealt with head on because that view of the blade will always exists. We need to have better education and good PR out there. That's a big reason why I joined AKTI.
As a MCB practitioner, I know I try to act responsibibly and would not consider use of a blade except in defense of life, mine or someone elses. I can't say that about every knife wielder out there. And, if SpyderCo produces a MCB, there is no quarantee that it won't end up in the wrong hands. Yet, if SypderCo wants to restrict, or control, or identify, or ... the responsible MCB user may just not bother... And, it could still fall in the wrong hands. Ain't no getting around it.
I would like Spyderco to produce MCB's and would likely purchase them. I also know that if Spyderco choose not to, there are production and custom makers willing to fill that niche. They are already there.
